        Hello,

I’ve had my Jersey Wooly (Dwarf Angora mix) rabbit for 3 years, but I feel like I’m always wanting to improve my care for her and make sure everything is great for her. I’m interested in hearing some opinions on her diet to see if there’s anything I can improve on.

Every day, she gets about 1/4 cup of Oxbow Adult rabbit food. She also always has unlimited timothy hay. She refuses to eat any greens (I’ve tried so many kinds, and I’m still working on it). She gets some fresh banana at night, one of her favorites. Every morning, she gets the Oxbow Natural Science supplements (one for Digestive Support and one for her Skin and Fur). She absolutely loves these. I want to add another supplement (one for urinary support, as she is getting treated for a UTI), but I’m not sure if having 3 of the supplements is okay (any opinion on this would be awesome). She also gets some Oat hay sometimes as a little treat. Rabbit diets are so tricky, especially when your little bun is picky! I want my bun to be as happy and healthy as she can be, and I would love some input on this!

        Thanks so much!

        !

          Oh, she is so beautiful!

The 1/4 cup of pellets sounds about right for her size (she doesn’t look very big). The pellets cover their nutrional needs. 2 of my girls (one now passed away) stopped eating greens and I could never figure why. Eventually one came to eating more again. Recently, the vet tested the pee and said how it had good (meaning proper) amount of calcium in it. I commented about how she doesn’t seem to want to eat greens and he said “that’s because she doesn’t need the calcium”. I had never thought of it that way. I don’t know if that was the case with these 2 girl buns but it was something to think about.

Have you tried various herbs for your girl? You could try reducing her pellets even more for a short while, to see if she’ll sample more greens. She may need the 1/4 cup for  long term though, for the protein to produce the wool. But sometimes, once they have a taste for greens, they’ll continue to eat them even if they have more pellets again.
