  I posted about a month ago because I was uncertain of whether or not to get my 6 year old baby bunny neutered. I ended up doing it yesterday (March 1st). I brought him home and he was suppose to wear a cone. Needless to say the whole cone thing did not last long. I couldn’t keep it on him, he was getting his ear stuck in it and paws stuck in it, it just wasn’t worth his or my stress.
  I was looking at the sutures today to see how they were doing, one of his balls looks a bit more inflamed than the other and you can see the cut very clearly. It isn’t bleeding or anything. Just inflamed and you can see the cut that was made very clearly (I will add picture), the other ball seems to be a soft pink and even a little deflated, that one seems fine. He’s been licking the surrounding area, but I can’t tell if he’s licking the actual incisions. I don’t believe he is though. He’s eating, drinking, pooping, peeing and running around as usual I’m restricting his running area a bit and how often but that’s about it. He also seems much happier when not locked up in his cage like I was instructed to do for the first few days. He’s just not acting like anything even happened other than the licking and inflammation that I’m seeing.
  I was wondering if someone knew when I should be concerned. I hope that some inflammation is normal and it goes away on its own, this is only nightnof day two. I was just wondering what everyone’s input was.

  Are you able to resize the photo and try again?
  
  Is the sac where you can see the incision more swollen? It’s not unusual for the sacs to fill up with fluid. It’s nothing to be concerned about. I was just wondering if this is why you can see the incision more then you can on the other side.

  I tried to resize the picture and can’t get it small enough to submit it on here. You can definielty see it though, much more than the other one. I really wish I could get this picture to work! I hadn’t thought of that. If it doesn’t start to look any better within how long do you think should I start being concerned?

  You could try a warm compress on it to see it that helps.
  
  I suppose if the incision starts to leak or looks like there is pus OR if Snickers is acting uncomfortable, then take him in for a re-check.

  It does look like the sack has filled up with fluid. As Jersey says, this can happen and it’s not considered alarming. A warm or cold compress could help. If you are worried, call your vet and ask.

  That does look pretty swollen but some swelling is normal so he may just have a bit more than is usual. Ditto, Bam. If you are concerned you could call or better yet, text or email the pic to your vet.
  
  My big boy had one side that stayed swollen over a week after his neuter. My vet did a quick session of laser therapy and it went down after a few days.

  Thank you everyone for the input! I ended up calling my vet and emailing the picture to them. They seemed to think it was fine but if I started to see it getting any worse or him acting funny to bring him in right away.
  I have to ask though, what is a warm or cold compress? Sorry if that is a silly question, I’ve just never heard of that before.

  It’s basically a heat or cold pack held against the affected area. You can use various things. Even a warm towel. I’ve even poured hot water on a towel before then sealed it in a plastic bag then put a dry cloth over that. Now, I usually have a wheat heat bag on hand. I *think* you can heat dry rice in the microwave and put inside a pillow case or anything else that would be suitable.
  For cold compress, if you dont have a gel pack, a bag of peas from the freezer would work nicely.
  
  If I use a warm compress on the eye, I usually use a warm, wet face cloth. But even a chammomile teabag held against the eye can be soothing.

  LPT, that’s cool! Im reading more and more about how (cold) laser can be used.

  Okay! Wow I never thought of even just a tea bag! That’s pretty awesome. So this was posted, I’d say two days ago, and he is doing very well. Not even bothering the incisions anymore. Running around with my dog and happy to be out of his cage again finally. He’s humming and all and sitting on my back trying to eat my hair while I write this haha The humming is what makes me so happy though I was literally having a break down trying to figure out the cone situation the first day, what a nightmare! Sometimes you have to be the bad guy, but it’s just hard, they’re so much our babies. thank you everyone for helping me and with the suggestions so much! I’ve been a member of the forum for 3 or 4 years now and I don’t even know how I would have made it through bunny hood without some of the great suggestions and comments to the things I’ve posted! Thanks again everyone!
