  So, unfortunately, I think Puff might have a UTI. Against my better judgement, I gave her a treat without doing enough research first. Alfalfa cubes are now in the garbage. I called the vet, and they can get her in on Saturday. Before the appointment, they want me to bring in a urine sample. Does anyone have an idea of how to collect the urine, and what to put the urine in? She isn’t using her litterbox as usual, so it’s difficult to predict where she might go pee.

  When they were testing Rookie’s pee…I thought he was dying when he peed bright orange….turns out it was just the lettuce lol…whoops….they just took it straight from the bladder.

  Hey CocoaPuff. I think for most rabbits, there’s a short latency period between when they drink water/eat watery vegetables and when they go pee. You may just need to stalk Puff after he drinks some water, and prepared with a small container (any that you’re willing to sacrifice for the job, such as a small cup; a measuring cup may work since they’re small) to put by his bottom. Wick usually pushes his bottom out when he urinates, so there’s a nice angle from the exit source to the ground where I can imagine myself holding a cup in front of without scooping up his bottom. Rabbits will usually investigate a spot, turn around, and back-up when they go to pee (unless it’s an “I hate you” pee, in which case they just do it).

  You can also try and let him pee on something non absorbent and use a syringe to pick some up and into a container from there.

  Are you saying you think Alfalfa cubes gave your bun a UTI?
  
  Could that really be a cause of a UTI?

  For anyone wanting an update: I ended up emptying her litter box and putting paper towels down. She peed on them, and I wrung them out into the little cup. It was pretty gross, but it worked. Cocoa does in fact have a UTI, so she’s on antibiotics for 10 days, and I picked up some probiotics for her as well so she won’t have diarhhea. The vet also confirmed that the alfalfa cubes were most likely the cause. Thank you everyone for the suggestions!

  Wow, I never would have thought about wringing out paper towels, that’s a good albeit smelly method! :p Glad you were able to get a diagnosis and she’s on the mend
