  Hello all,
  
  My wife and I are new to the bunny owning world and have run into a health issue that we are trying to find answers to. Our bunny Milo started getting a crusty nose about 3 weeks into owning him (after getting him from a pet store). We first thought it was allergies and changed his food bowl, stopped him from drinking out of an open bowl (moved to water dispenser), and started cleaning litter box daily. No improvement. We took him to the vet and they said normal amount of bacteria on nose after doing mites test. They gave him a topical spray that we have used daily morning and night. Also no improvement. It appears to be spreading to the area around his eyelids and the fur behind his ears is redder now. He appears to be very itchy, scratching his nose fairly regularly. He is still eating drinking and using the litterbox normally and there has been no change in energy level. We feed him pellets, hay and leafy greens daily.
  
  We have another appointment with a different vet on Tuesday.
  
  I have attached a picture. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  Reminds me of burrowing mites (i.e. mange). Sometimes skin scrapings give false negatives. What harm would it be to treat for mites anyway? If she gets better, then you have your answer. If not, then no harm done. I would think ivermectin would be the way to go since it kills a wide variety of mites. You could also try Revolution.

  It seems to me like he has caught the rabbit snuffles, or pasteurellosis. Is the discharge from his nose white and watery or has turned thick and yellowy? Has he been sneezing? My rabbit had this a while back but managed to heal himself after I got poor vet advice. This can turn to be a serious issue and would need medical attention as soon as possible. If not, than it may be mites like the other person suggested. Please keep us updated! ?

  I’m not too familiar, but another option worth considering is rabbit syphilis.

  True Azerane, but I didn’t think it caused itching necessarily?

  Awww…..poor little Bub.. I ditto, LBJ. I would probably treat for mites since that won’t hurt anything and that is one thing you can rule out.
  
  But also agree with Azerane. The location of the scabbing makes me think of syphilis. I’m not sure exactly how that’s treated in bunnies but I know the symptoms. Maybe the reason she is scratching her nose is irritation as opposed to itchiness. That looks pretty uncomfortable.
