  Hello all, it happend. The other week after returning home I found Autumn against the wall and with a swollen stomach. She moved to turn her back to me and was breathing heavily, had a painful expression in her face and was shivering. I knew exactly what it was and got her to the vet immidiately. After moving between vets she was diagnosed with stasis and given pain meds, an xray and recovery food. I syringe fed her and after over a day she started eating by herself again. Before she was diagnosed I thought it was an impaction and was ready for bad news, luckily it was only stasis. It really does make you think, Autumn is a fighter and I forget how fragile they are.
  
  Recognising Stasis:
  
  Sudden abnormally large stomach, unwillingness to eat for more than 6 hours, failing to pass feces, attempts to push stomach down to ground, hard stomach. Take the rabbit to the vet immidiately if you observe any of the above signs.

  Thank you Vienna, it’s thanks to people like yourself here on bb that i was able to Iearn these things. I made this thread to show everyone here how this site has given me the knoweldge I needed to save her. She is even happier now I managed to trim her talons

  So glad she made it through and well done for getting her so swiftly to the vet after recognising the signs. My mini lop Chewie had an episode of stasis before Christmas and it was awful seeing her in so much pain. But luckily I spotted the signs very quickly thanks to all the information and wonderful bunny owners on this forum, too. Hope you continues to make a speedy recover.

  So glad to hear she came through this swiftly, due to your diligence. It sounds as if you have a knowlegeable vet also. Remain healthy {{{vibes}}} going out for Autumn!

  Snow- glad to hear your bun came through it, not a good experience stasis.
  
  Q8bunny- thanks, a suffering rabbit is one of the worst things.
  
  jersey- well, the second vet was knowledgeable but unfortunately its too far away to change to from my local. They were great in there, clean, open all hours and very fast acting. The vet who saw Autumn was even a rabbit owner also. A poor woman who had lost her old dog was walked out by the sectary lady with her hand rested atop her shoulder as she carried the poor thing away. That memory is burned into me, such kindness and comradery of that was one of the most wonderful things I’ve seen. I take my hat off to them for what they do, even when tragedy is sadly inevitable.
