My boyfriend had his rabbit on the bed (a 5 week old male) and while Mercury was hopping around we noticed a yellow jelly-ish discharge on the bed. He didn’t see him puke, and every time he pooped it was a little wetter than usual but nothing too out of the normal. We googled Rabbit Diarrhea and the pictures looked nothing like this discharge. The only thing we came up with was this discharge happens when the rabbit is about to give birth, but seeing as he is a male and not old enough to breed, that seems like it might not be it.
Their diets consists of hay, pellets and water always available, I try to give them a salad made of carrots and celery leaves every night. But, I’ve recently ran out of leaves so I was told that Celery Stocks are okay to give them as long as the strings are not there, and I cut them up finely. I also give them fruit from time to time, I space it out to be about every other day or longer.
There are a few new things in their cage:
I’m going to start litter training them, so I have paper bedding, which Mercury has been chewing on. And a lady at a pet store told me that Lemon Juice helps teach them where to go because rabbits think it’s their pee. So, if he’s chewing the paper then he’s getting lemon juice too. And 2 new toys/treats. Rice Pops and Bag-o-Chews, which is fruit flavored. But sugar is not listed.
We haven’t seen any of this discharge in the cage before this, and we haven’t seen any after. It was just a small amount, almost like a penny sized puddle.
