  Hi all,
  
  I have two bunnies Rowland (Rowly) and Ralphie. They are about four months old, very cute and loving, not yet neutered.
  
  I’m really enjoying having them but at least once a day, they will hop up on my lap, pee on me within about five seconds and then go off and carry on playing!! How do you think it best to deal with this? I have read lots of forums where people say their bunny pees on them after picking them up and fussing them for 10 or so mins, but I’m not doing that – they come to me!!
  
  Also, can people let me know what is best to use in their litter trays? At the moment I have been putting sawdust down in their hutch with a bit of hay on top but as they sit eating this hay, they just pee here rather than in the litter trays. I have currently been scooping up the pee’d on sawdust from the hutch and putting in the litter tray several times a day but the Buns just aren’t picking up on it and keep peeing on the hay in the hutch (and me)..!

  Peeing on you like that is probably them trying to claim you as their own lol.
  
  As for litter training – firstly, you only want to have ‘bedding’ in the litter trays themselves. Not all over as it confuses them. Try just using something in the tray with hay at one end so they can eat and poop and pee at the same time. You definitely want to stop using sawdust. It’s not good for bunnies. I use carefresh but it is expensive. A lot of people here use wood stove pellets! If they end up peeing on the bare base of the hutch, soak it up with some kitchen paper and put that in the litter box

  When i first got my bun i had cedar shavings in cage and a cornet little box with yesterday days news brand of litter. I thought he needed shavings to feel comfy. Keeping it clean was a nightmare. He peed and pooped in shavings. I asked my breeder and she said to ditch the shavings. So now i have a litter box under his hay rack. And no shavings. Much better

  Thanks for the replies! And sorry for the delay.. little Ralphie has been very ill and the vet said he wouldn’t survive but he’s still pulling through ? He’s a little fighter!!
  
  They seem to be much much better with using their litter trays! I have bought new litter and put hay on top of it and they, as you said, sit munching and peeing and pooping all at the same time! I’m still using sawdust but I agree, I have read in lots of places that it isn’t good for bunnies so I’m going to swap to vet beds – I’ll buy two and swap them, wash one while they use the other!
  
  They only seem to jump up on me and pee occasionally now so I do think it was a territorial thing! Yay! I’m theirs haha!

  It is best to stop the sawdust as soon as possible. It can cause respiratory issues. I don’t know why pet shops sell it as suitable for rabbits to he honest!
  
  Very glad to hear little Ralphie is on the road to recovery. Bunnies are so fragile, it’s great that he’s a fighter!
