I bought Bilbo some Vita Prima Sunseed Rabbit Food, before I did this I went on a rabbit food comparison site to make sure it met the nutrition qualifications. It matched the same nutrition as the foods that had all green for each category (fiber, protein, etc) so I decided to try it. It isn’t straight pellets, it’s a mix of dehydrated vegetables, Timothy hay, pellets, and a few dehydrated fruits that are spread through the bag. Bilbo loves it, he digs through the bowl to find the veggies and he hops around his cage with the brown circular shaped food (it has the texture of dog food not sure what it is) and the dehydrated vegetables in his mouth.
It says on the bag (because I put his food in a big container since I bought two bags and it saves space) “Offer feed freely in a large heavy bowl. Wash feed bowl and offer fresh food daily. Clean water should be available at all times. Store unused portion in a cool, dry place. Pet rabbits need lots of dietary fiber and also should be fed fresh hay daily.” So do I just keep his bowl filled or what?
He doesn’t eat the pellets quickly, in fact he eats everything but them first. If I leave it in his cage at night he will then eat the pellets so that he can get his bowl refilled. He eats the food throughout the day and doesn’t eat the things he looks right away, but throughout the day. I also have fresh hay in his litter box and give him fresh Romaine and Collared greens (those are the two for the next couple weeks I’ve chosen) daily. I always have his water bowl filled. He gets his veggies during play time.
