  Hello, this is my first post. I guess I will start by giving a little background info! My daughter went away to school and her roommate decided to get a bunny in the dorm room. The advisor came in and found the bunny on the weekend my daughter said she would watch her because the roommate had to go out of town. So he tells her she has til 6pm to find a place for her. I get a phone call from my daughter she doesn’t know what to do. I wouldn’t have considered bringing a bunny home just because we have a 100 pound st.bernard/German shepherd, a Yorkie and a ragdoll cat. At this point we had no choice. So she brings her home and I am only planning on keeping her until the roommate comes back. We keep her in my daughter’s room through the day and have a 4’x4′ xpen at night. At first I kept the door shut so the other animals couldn’t bother her. The roommate gets back and she doesn’t want her, she is just going to sell her. I was already attached in just a week and didn’t want her to have to be moved around again. She has been here about a month. She is friends with Sophie and Ava but I afraid to let Leo around her. He is not mean, he’s just a big clumsy dog. I bought a doggy gate so the door does not have to be shut all the time. She was spade on Tuesday and came home and hopped out of the carrier and went to her litter box to potty. She is the best little bunny. I have been amazed what a great little bunny she is. I just feel kind of selfish for keeping her because she can’t roam the whole house like the other pets. I am home pretty much all day everyday so I always go in there and play with her and talk to her. I hope some day she will be able to roam the whole house, but with Leo I am so scared he would accidentally step on her or something. I apologise for this being so long. I want to do what’s best for her and was just wondering if I should find a better situation for her. I had bunnies as a kid but they stayed outside so everything is new with her and that was 20 years ago. Please let me know any advice or suggestions you all may have. Thanks in advance and sorry again for such a long post!

  You are doing great! Thank you so much for taking her in! A room is often enough for a bunny to be happy, specially if there are possible threats outside of the room My bunnies only have free roam of one room, the living room, and although they try to test their bounds by trying to sneak into other rooms, they are happiest in the(their) living room. I would not worry about your daughters room being too small for the little bun

  If the bunny has free range in a bedroom all day, that sounds pretty nice. Some rabbits are caged or penned the majority of the time. Even if a rabbit has a whole house to run around in, they may mainly stay in one or two rooms. They like to have certain places to be, where they feel safe and where their things are. That’s not to say that rabbits don’t love running through a house or exploring places, but a rabbit who has free rein in a room, and has the company of people or some other animals, should be content and happy. Any room that a rabbit is loose in should be “bunny proofed”, which means wrapping or putting up wires and cords, and keeping other chewables out of their reach as much as possible. You can never totally bunny proof a room, as there will be furniture, baseboards, etc., but you can keep certain things protected or out of their way.   Don’t feel selfish! You took her in to give her a nice home, plus she is a lucky bun to have a whole room to herself.

  She seems to really like Sophie (yorkie) and the Ava the (cat). She will chase them around and go right up to them. Our cat is very mellow she kind of just lays around and watches everything go on. They have went in with me to just hang out, but Leo we leave at the door. He is a good dog and loves everyone and everything but he’s just so big we keep him out. When he comes up to the gate she doesn’t run and hide but I can tell she isn’t comfortable with him like the other too. She really adjusted to us fast and that was another reason I didn’t want to send her off to just be sold. She has just been such a good bunny. I ordered her the cottontail cottage from here and made her a few things too and she seems happy. I thought when she came home from the vet she might be mad, but today she is acting more like her self. She has a lot happen in just a short time but she seems to be taking things in stride.I feel a lot better hearing from you all, I was filling really guilty about having to separate her from everyone.
