  I’ve noticed recently little Peanut has done two poops with a little hair in them and Buttercup did one yesterday. I don’t brush them very often because they’re short haired but after seeing Peanut’s hair-poop, I did the ‘wet hand’ trick on both and didn’t really get rid of any loose hairs. I think it might be from the carpet? They don’t eat or chew the carpet but I was sprinkling pellets on the floor and some of their treats so they could have ingested carpet fluff that way.
  
  I’ve since stopped putting any food directly on the carpet but is there anything else I can do? They are both fine but I don’t want anything to possibly cause a blockage? Is the occasional hair-poop okay/normal?

  a small amount of hair in poops is ok, it shows everything is passing through. too much isn’t so good though, so keep an eye on it

  ^^^ this is what I use for grooming, I find it very effective. grooming tums is quite a fight, but can yield an amazing amount, even from a short haired bun.

  As GJ says, a little. It if hair is normal. Hay and water are important, you can serve their greens wet. If it’s hair from the carpet the problem is solved now when you don’t give food directly on the carpet.
  
  A high fiber diet and good hydration is what’s recommended to help a bun pass hair. Papaya or fresh pineapple were often recommended historically, but it isn’t Nowadays. I don’t know if the stomach acid inactivate the protein-cleaving enzymes or if it’s just that the amount of fruit you can safely feed a bun contains so little of these enzymes that you basically get no effect from them.

  Thanks guys – I think we’ve solved the issue for Peanut by not serving directly on the carpet. We saw the 2nd/final hair poop a couple of days ago and haven’t seen one since. Will continue to do the wet hand grooming regularly too though just to be sure.
  
  As for Buttercup, a large part of her area is covered with a mat so I wasn’t sure if it was carpet-induced but I have just spotted the little rascal chewing at the carpet (it’s more “door mat” material) by the front door so she is not allowed out there now. The sneaky monster. Hopefully they’ll be no more issues if that one hairy poop was the result of her carpet chewing!
  
  Thankfully both are hay fiends (though Buttercup moreso) and they both drink a fair bit (though Buttercup drinks more but as she eats more, that’s not surprising) and they get served veggies that are pretty wet. Don’t worry, the veggies were never served on the carpet!
  
  Interesting you mentioned pineapple – I plan on buying some dried pineapple as a treat for them and did wonder if it would help push hair through their system but I guess not :p
