Lilyandluna, the minimum size cage a rabbit can be in is a 4′ by 2′. As for which to get, there are many options! I personally have a store bought cage that 4′ by 2′! Even though my bunny seems to like it, I am very unhappy about it. Anyways, there are three different options I remember, maybe more. One, the cheapest, a dog pen. Dog pens are easy to clean and very storage friendly. The second option, which I do not recommend, is a dog crate. Dog crates most often come in very small sizes, and the larger ones are very expensive! They are also very hard to clean because they only have doors on the sides. The third option, which I think I would definitely get, is a c and c cage! These cages are great because they can be built any way you want! If you can only afford to get a few, just enough for make 4′ by 2′, that’s ok! You could buy a little bit more every month and eventually, you’ll be able to build a whole three story condo! Of course, with all theses good things there needs to be a catch. This cage isn’t very cheap, especially if you want a condo. A condo will most likely cost more than 100, but if you get the cubes from Walmart to do a 4′ by 2′ then I think it would cost around 70$! But the price is definitely worth it!!! You can also get a hutch. But hutches are very very expensive and they don’t last long because they’re made of wood. And if course rabbits chew wood, as well as pee on it! Hope this helps! And remember, this is my opinion I’m sure other people may enjoy the things I don’t like. But in my opinion, you should get a c and c cage, but that’s up for you to decide!

You can easily do a basic c&c cage without spending much money. I went all out on mine, but you can just simply use the cubes and cable ties, and that’s it. For the floor, I’ve seen people use fleece that extends beyond the base of the cage. Which country do you live in? That will help us to make suggestions as to where you can buy the cubes. For a 4×2 cube cage that is 2 grids high without a roof (you can use a sheet to cover the top), you will need 24 grids. If you want to attach a roof you would need 32 grids. There is an example of this basic cage without the roof on youtube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YfOc2e6lUZQ although she has used the connectors to build it which I wouldn’t do, I would use cable ties as they are stronger. But as you can see it is very simple and you don’t need wooden floors or shelves etc for it to work. Making it a 5×2 wouldn’t be hard either and would only require an extra 4 grids.

The only other cage that you can get in a good size for under $100 is a puppy play pen as suggested. You need one tall enough to make sure bunny doesn’t jump out.

Our two have a dog crate, which by the way is super easy to clean because it has two doors and the tray is removable which allows me to take it through to the shower and wash it there, then that is attached to an x-pen one of the crate doors is left open to give them the whole area at all times. I got our crate off a local classified site and it was super cheap and brand new, the pen came from amazon – all in all I think I was maybe £50-£60. However I would have loved to have a c&c cage, but couldn’t get the grids cheap enough here. I would definitely go with the c&c if that’s an option for you.

That’s awesome that a dog crate works for you! I’ve never seen one that does that, so I wouldn’t know!

Its really cool actually, the one we had before wasn’t as easy to be honest but definitely doable. This one almost the whole side is a door and you can just tilt the tray and slide it out. The set up we have takes up a lot of space – in fact we had to move our furniture around to accommodate it but with time constrictions we have at the moment the buns are locked in for a good portion of the day these days so I wanted them to have the maximum space I could give them, although they do get a lot of free roam time they cannot be left unsupervised because they are naughty lol so need confined to some extent when no one is home

Oh! LOL! My rabbit is naughty too! I’m very unhappy with the cage setup I have currently, but my bunny gets a lot of free time daily, so she seems very happy! I want to get a c and c cage or something like what you have. But right now I don’t have the room. I think that by next year though I’ll be able to have a much better cage setup…. I really am in love with your setup though! LOL! Right now my family and I are in a cabin and since we didn’t want to bring her cage along, we set up this huge play area in the bathroom! She’s really enjoying it! Everytime I walk in to check on her she’s binkying and flopping! I want to someday have a bunny room, but that won’t happen for a long time… ?
