Hello everyone, sorry if I post a lot, but my female Netherland dwarf seems to have a lot of health problems lately. She’s had a runny left nostril for the past few months, and her vet suspected pasteurella and placed her on Baytril for a week. Unfortunately, she did not improve. Because I was finishing up finals for a couple of weeks, I was unable to take her back for a follow up and by the time I was available to bring her, her vet closed early for the holidays. Yesterday night, she was hopping into the litter box and she tripped. I don’t really know how to explain it, but as she was jumping in, she kind of tumbled and rolled in there. She is a very small bun, but she is bonded to my much larger bun, Moo, so I couldn’t give them a small tiny litter box for her size. They have the smallest possible litter box that Moo can fit in. She never really had trouble hopping in, but now I feel so guilty about having one that’s big for her. She never wants to use a separate litter box from him, and I’ve tried to provide her with smaller one as well as his and she never used it. After her fall, she kept losing balance. I realized she was leaning significantly to her left side and would often tumble because of being unbalanced. She also stopped eating after. This happened around 2am and no vets were open not, even emergency ones. I was able to take her to a vet that was open for the holidays this morning quite far from my house and took the first appointment. I noticed that she developed a pretty bad head tilt in the few hours of the accident when I awoke in the morning. She’s always had a slight sway, where she would sway left to right, but it was almost unnoticeable. I read it was common in rabbits with red eyes, which she has. Now after the head tilt, the sway is extremely bad. She’s hopping okay now, but the head tilt is terrible and she struggles to sit up and clean her self and falls over when she tries. The vet said it could be an ear infection or the pasteurella. She suggested to put her on Baytril again for 2 weeks, meloxicam, and cisapride. I told her about the accident, but just prescribed her meloxicam, and didn’t really relate that to the head tilt and her leaning to the left side even though those symptoms appeared after the fall. Since she also hasn’t been eating, she also prescribed cisapride. Since the accident, she has barely touched her hay, water, and pellets. I tried to take away pellets to get her eating more hay but it seems like the only thing she will even take a bite of right now. She usually gets so excited for pellets, but she just sits there and sways now. She will sniff the hay, pellets, and water and just walks away. Sorry for such the long post but I am so worried because she isn’t really eating and has made some strange, small poops. Her head tilt & swaying is also worrying me and she does some sort of blinking or eye movement to adjust. Please help! Does anyone know what this could be, experienced this, or have any advice to keep her alive and eating. What can I do? I will try to attach some photos of her tilt and the poops she’s managed to make as well as a video of her.
