Hello everyone,
New member here! We recently got a new bunny after our baby Minnie passed a few weeks ago. We’ve had her about a week now, so she’s probably around 6-7 weeks (our friend breeds lops and assured us she was weened and ready to go home, I thought it was a bit too early). She is a holland lop.
I guess we’re just trying to make sure we’re doing everything right with our baby. We mainly just had a question about her diet. We’re currently feeding her about 50/50 Oxbow Timothy hay/Alfalfa and we’ve also been feeding her a small amount of Oxbow juvenille bunny pellets (I believe they’re alfalfa based) only once a day, usually in the morning. I’ve been reading quite a bit on this forum/the internet and have read mixed things about young bunny diets. Should we just stick to unlimited Alfalfa only and ditch the Timothy? How much pellets and how often? I’ve also read some people feeding unlimited Alfalfa pellets? Of course, she also has unlimited fresh water, too

Sorry we’re just now responding to the post. Thanks for the replies everyone! We ended up taking her to the vet for a checkup to make sure she’s OK, to ask a few questions, diet, etc. We found out she’s a girl and we’ve been calling her Tiny
The vet informed us that her diet is great; we’ve been feeding her unlimited Oxbow pellets as well as Timothy hay. However, recently she’s been producing quite a few cecals daily, sometimes 5-10 and that’s been concerning us. They aren’t runny, but they do look smushed (I’m assuming she’s walked over them). Sometimes they’re unformed, almost like little broken up cecals. But she is pooping normal as well… Could the alfalfa based pellets be too much for her or maybe her tummy doesn’t agree with them? Is she maybe overproducing and just not eating all of them? Sorry for the barrage of questions lol.. I called the vet and asked about her cecals and he really didn’t seem concerned.. he just told us to bring her in if we felt like something is wrong and to bring a sample.

. What’s your new bun’s name? She’s so cute! You can keep the Timothy in. I really don’t know if the fact that the pellets are Alfalfa based affects this answer, but I was under the impression that juvenile buns can have unlimited pellets.
