Thanks guys I’m doing the best I can, I just hope it’s good enough!

I’m trying to stay positive, I really hope he doesn’t hold a grudge for too long! He’s been getting so much more comfortable over the past few days – Buttercup is on the left side of the living room and Peanut is on the right hand side which is nearer to the sofa so he’s physically closer to us and I guess kind of forced him out of his comfort zone. He has started climbing on me a little when I’m sitting on the floor

The vet said Peanut’s surgery went well, I can pick him up at 4:30pm!

I’ve got my Peanut back! The vet nurse was all smiles and said he’d been brilliant, he’d eaten and pooped after surgery and despite being a little grumpy this morning (lol) he was bouncing around in his pen this afternoon! He’s already had a bit of a nibble at home – I’ve given him his favourite foods – plus he’s peed and pooped here too. Now he’s just sitting looking quite dozy. He’s not had much to drink the vet nurse said but he’s got soaking romaine in his bowl so he’ll get some hydration  Oh the nurse also gave him a bit of her apple from her lunch, I knew my lil Pinto bean was a charmer 

He’s eaten oat grass, dandelion, plantain, sunflower petals, some chicory root, the seed heads from his Timothy Hay, lettuce and carrot!

My little love bug is sleeping now. Buttercup appears to be watching over him, she’s laying on the opposite side of his pen panels 

Me too, I’m so relieved. He is my brave little boy!

He’s doing really well, he started chewing on one of his favourite toys last night and this morning he has eaten a little oat grass, plantain, lettuce and his breakfast pellets. I put some metacam on the lettuce but I don’t think he really needed it but I figured it’s best as a precaution.

How long should I keep him confined?

Any tips for encouraging water drinking? He’s got a bowl and a bottle but I’ve not seen him go to either aside from last night he had a little sip. He’s peed this morning so not too worried about that.

He’s actually drinking now, from his bowl. I gave him really saturated lettuce yesterday so he probably didn’t feel the need to drink but he had drunk a little overnight and I’ve seen him drink from his bowl this morning If he doesn’t drink much today I will try the apple juice. I assume just pure apple juice from concentrate would be okay?

Yes, just normal apple juice.

Good news, he’s drank a significant amount today. I checked his bowl earlier and was surprised to see he’d drunk the same amount as Buttercup! He’s either been making secret visits to the water bowl or he guzzles a lot when he does get spotted 

Peanut had a check up today and he is healing really well! 

Also the vet nurse said usually it takes about an hour to an hour and a half to wake up properly from the anaesthetic but he woke up and started eating within ten minutes! She was very impressed with him.

Yay, Peanut!!! I think Buttercup too made a remarkably swift recovery from her surgery. I’m impressed with you.

I think I struck gold with the bunnies, I’m very lucky!

Btw: if buns are reluctant to drink, some hay tea may also help. That’s a tip Dutch vets give: put a handful of hay into a cup and pour boiling water onto it. Let seep and cool until lukewarm. Drain the liquid and put it into a separate water crock, so the bunny has a choice. Most bunnies love the sweet smell and taste of it. Note: it spoils quickly, refresh daily and don’t store it.

I keep meaning to try out hay tea but never remember! I can certainly see why it would encourage a poor drinker. I’m keen to try it mainly for curiosity, my bunnies are weird at trying new things though lol.
