Those that place hay in litter trays – how tidy are your bunnies? Do they keep the hay at one side? I always place the hay at one side but they pull it and stomp all over it so it ends up all over the tray lol. They eat it but it would be more sanitary if they just kept it at one end! Any tips for encouraging this?

Bindi has a large triangle litterbox. He is very tidy with his hay and keeps it in one corner and poops on the other. Sterling has a big rectangular box and is a total stinker and poops and pees at both ends and drags the hay all over. Very wasteful and messy. And surprising because Sterling’s condo is always very tidy while Bindi’s always looks like a hurricane went through it.

Because Sterling is so wasteful. I often give him hay in a little hayball that I have hanging right over his litterbox. He eventually gets most of it out but at least it allows him to eat some before it gets all smooshed with poop.

I was able to keep hay at one end of the box with my bun, Bandit. He was super tidy. Now that I have my pair, I tried that and it really didn’t work so I have a hay rack at one end of the box. They pull hay out into the box (not a great deal), outside of the box, and into their water bowl.

I put it on one side, but all three of my bunnies like to dig for that perfect piece Even though they end up throwing the hay all over the litter box, they only poop and pee in one corner of it, so they dont ever touch the hay that lands in that corner

Glad my buns aren’t the only messy ones! Ah well, at least it’s all somewhat contained within the litter box. I should be grateful!
