  Hello everyone as of lately my bunny has started to experience puberty and he has turned from a small fur ball to the tasmanian devil.
  
  He is a dwarf lionhead mix with a hotot not really sure. Anyhow my little bun when he is not out he is living into a big comfortable cage.. Quite unfortunately he hates being there and he is biting the cage bars constantly trying to find a way out. Whenever he is out he is very playful grooming me whenever he feels like it and he is very accepting whenever i try to pet him as long as he is done playing.. In general he is very bonded to me. But here comes the tricky part the entrance of the cage is positioned at the top of the cage.. It’s a dragging type door where you slide it on the right side. A few days ago i woke up and i found that sliding door half-open i was a little buzzed but i couldn’t actually think at that point that it was his doing. Few days after i woke up and found him on top of his cage scared cause he couldnt find a way to come down.. That was a huge surprise to me as i genuinely didn’t think that he was that damn clever. Moreover yesterday was the final act i woke up again in the morning and i found him inside the room outside of his cage with the sliding door open running around and playing.. I allowed that little fella to show me his ways. What really struck me was not the fact that he slided the door but the fact that he knew excactly that it only slides towards the right side. To conclude since then i put some safety measures and put a book over his sliding door so he cannot open it but this created another problem. Now he is biting the cage bars in all directions and he is trying to slide them thinking that all cage bars are actually doors to go outside. How can i stop him from doing that..

  Do you plan to have him neutered? Part of the reason he is doing all this cage biting is likely due to frustration brought on by the influx of hormones. I’m not sure that there is anything you could actually do to remedy this, but getting him neutered should help with the problem. I guess that you could try putting him in a completely different cage or getting an x-pen for him, to see if a different set up would make him realize that the new pen doesn’t have a sliding door, but you may not want to go to the expense of a new pen. And he still may bite the bars of a different pen. I don’t know if there is some way that you could affix large pieces of cardboard boxes to the cage sides to cover the bars, but that would be the only other thing I can think of at the moment. Although you don’t want him to ingest a lot of cardboard, so if he is a chewer, you shouldn’t try that.
  
  If you do get him neutered, don’t expect changes right away. It can take a month or more for the hormones to die down.

  We use a loose grid to open our bunnies cage from the lower half. My Blue has watched us wiggle it off so many times, he was able to figure out how himself (push right, push left, pull it out, or in Blue’s case, tug right, tug left, push the top of it). He did it right in front of me one day and took a mad dash to the bedroom to wake my boyfriend up. I could not stop laughing. Blue was so proud of himself. Now we have twist ties on the loose grid that need to be undone before you can open it. Maybe twist ties would work out for you as well?
  
  As for the biting to get out, that usually means buns are bored, but as Tobyluv said, it could also be hormones. What toys and play things does he have in his cage?
