My lionhead baby “Nono” just came home this morning after being spayed yesterday. I let her out of her carrier and into her pen thinking she would be groggy and weak, but she actually darted out of the pen and tried to run around the room. The vet said she shouldn’t be getting too much exercise for the next few days so I quickly scooped her up and put her back in the pen. I read online that you should trust your bunny to know how far he/she can push him/herself post-op, but I’m not sure if it applies here. She seems so miserable cooped up inside her pen, but I don’t want her to hurt herself.
She’s also been quickly getting her appetite back, which the vet says is a good sign, but her droppings are coming out small and black. They’re not mushy, but they’re not as dry as they usually are. Should I be concerned about this? She doesn’t seem to be in any real discomfort while she’s pooping.
Also, her bonded pair/non-biological sister “Curry” has been separated from her as per instruction from the vet who warned that Curry might try to lick at Nono’s wounds. There is just a pen fence between them so they can still see each other and groom each other’s faces. I tried putting them back together for a second under my supervision but Curry immediately started trying to lick Nono’s sutures so I separated them again. I read online about how important it is for bonded pairs to be together post-op for moral support and how they won’t actually damage the sutures or open any wounds, but I thought I’d ask here to see if anyone has been in a similar situation.
I’m probably just over-worrying, but I just want Nono’s recovery to be as swift and comfortable as possible for her. Her sulky little expression is breaking my heart at the moment..
