Hi all,
I’m looking for some advice, although I think I already know the answer 🙁
Daisey buns is a 10.5 year old Dutch. We’ve had her for three years and she is the most characterful little bunny we’ve ever had the pleasure to care for. A couple of months ago I went to check on her in the morning and she wasn’t using her back legs. We rushed her straight to the vet who said it was likely arthritis and prescribed daily metacam and light physio for the joint (it’s her left leg causing the problem)
She amazingly bounced back and didn’t have any further problems for a week or so but then she started dragging herself around a bit more. Back to the vet and he said it may be neurological (ageing to nerves) and to keep caring for her while she’s still happy.
It’s got to the point now where she doesn’t seem to use her left leg for more than a few seconds, and whenever I check on her she’s usually lying down although she still manages to drag herself up into one of the litter trays. I’ve put vet bed out for her but now every day she gets herself wet. I gave her wash and dried her last night and already this morning her fur is damp and stuck to her skin
She doesn’t have urine scald yet but I know it won’t be long now. Also when she was on the table last night, her left leg was going in all sorts of strange positions so the signal to her brain to tell her to put it right is obviously a lot worse.
She’s eating well but has had jelly in her poo the last couple of days. She is perky and still grooms, but both my partner and I feel like it’s probably time for her to go… we just can’t bring ourselves to make the call and take her there as we’re both scared to take her too soon.
I guess I’m just hoping for some confirmation that it does sound like her time and to hear from any of you who have been through similar experiences and how you know when it was time to say goodbye x
