Barely any poops! Wasn’t eating hay.Chewing on the walls, which I understand may be lack of fiber. Cut back on pellets and a tiny bit of greens. Started to hunch. Gave her gas meds with some apple. Eating more hay and drinking more water. Working on belly rubs. I literally have no money for a vet. I didn’t know I was going to lose my job
Any advice untl I can talk to the vet near me that is recommended eve through this site?
Thank you in advance.
.
Either there is a blockage, or something is making your bunny stop eating, which results in no poops. A blockage can only be helped by a vet, as far as I know. Not eating could be GI stasis, feeling sick for a different reason, pain, gas, not enough fiber, or to much sugar. If bunny is not eating, I would syringe feed critical care, or crushed pellets mixed with water. If gas meds and belly runs are helping, then it would seem to be the cause.
You just need a larger syringe if you are going to mush/ blend the pellets into a critical care-type product. You can cut the tip off a large syringe to make feeding easier. Last time I tried this, it was a disaster because my large syringe wouldn’t feed it through. I also think a vet visit is in order. How long has there been no poop?
Sorry I was by her side all night. She is eating. But still very little poops. Some now and they are healthy. Calling the vet now.
A good size syringe I found is the 35ml puppy feeding syringe. It helps to grind the pellets in a coffee grinder.
Probiotics also help. You can find benebac on Amazon. It has helped Lancelot tremendously. Since he became ill with E.Cuniculi in June/July, he has not eaten any hay at all, other than the oxbow natural science hay tablets I give him. So I periodically syringe feed him critical care, and I use benebac. Hay is best for restoring belly balance, but Benebac can’t be underestimated.
She is eating and drinking but no pee or poops. The vet here said sorry they can’t do anything without money. Of course I got laid off. I am beside myself. She only stays in one spot unless I come in her area and she seems happy again.
Good news!
You can give her gas meds (simethicone) for a day or too longer, just in case, sort of preventive if you can’t get to the vets. Belly rubs still if she’ll let you, won’t do harm and keep her mobile, play with her or call her over for cuddles. It all helps to keep the transit in motion.
What did the vet say ?
Did the vet offer any advice at all? If not, i would consider calling another vet for advice
Nobody cares. Even the rabbit house society here, humane society etc. They won’t even talk to me anymore. She stays in hunched and it making all these mad noises. She only moves when I am by her and she runs around me but did start nipping at my toes.No poo or pees. But still eats and drinks.
If things get worse is there anything I can do to make her comfortable but the end?
I know that sounds horrible but I have maxed all my resoures. Trust me, I am beside myself.
Give baby gas drops, 1 ml per hour for 3 hours, then 0,5 ml every 2 hours.
Give gentle tummy rubs. Try to make her move around. Those things will help the intestines move and push their contents in the right direction. Try to give her water by syringe so her stomach/intestinal contents get hydrated and hopefully more viscous.
Keep her warm, fex by sitting her in your lap so she can absorb body warmth from you. It’s also comforting for her to be in physical contact with another living being.
Those are the things I can think of that you can do at home. Baby gas drops are not very expensive and can be bought at Walmart f ex.
Here’s an instruction video on rabbit tummy massage:

I do have the gas drops.
Gave her the gas drops and some pineapple juice. She is super mad now.
You could also buy ranitidine (zantac), you can buy it over the counter for humans dissolve the tablet in water and give some to your bun, the dose would depend on weight but it helps with gut motility. Bramble is frequently on zantac but his comes from the vet so I have no experience with the tablets but I know it can be done you would just need to work out the dose correctly.
Is she still eating?
She is still eating. I am trying to keep her calm. She gets very upset with the gas drops. I also was able to get a packet of bene-bac. It’s on her lettuce. I am leaving her alone for now. Well peaking around the corner.
She has produced a few healthy poos.
I appreciate you guys more than you can imagine.
“Peeking around the corner” lol. We’ve all done that, knowing categorically that they don’t do what we want when we’re watching….
Glad she’s feeling a bit better… Does she like bananas? I conceal meds in a slice of banana.
That she gets mad is a great sign. A really sick bun doesn’t have the strength to fight.
I agree about the Zantac (ranitidine). For a 3 kg bun 1/10 to 1/8 of a 150 mg pill is good. There’s quite a span between harmful and therapeutic dose, so dosage doesn’t have to be super-accurate. You can crush it between the blades of two spoons, mix with water and feed it by syringe. Don’t get the effervescent tablets, just “normal” pills.
With more research, I think it may be her teeth. She still stays in one spot most of the time. I habe noticed this noise I have never heard. I googled the noises and I believe she is grinding her teeth.
Teeth grinding is a sign of pain. I hope that you can find a rabbit savvy vet around you, because your rabbit is in clear discomfort.
I am here now! My mom caved at least for the vet visit. They are highly recommend.
Okay, good that he’s at the vet now. I hope it’s something that can be fixed easily. Best of luck and keep us posted!
Well SHE is now Bob the bunny.
He has a little infection on his privates.
Oh and everything else is great. HE, as I am getting used to this, is healthy. Gut is moving. Just an attitude because of the infection and probably because I decreased food too quickly once I realized I was giving too many pellets. He is on antibiotics. He got a new toy while he was there. Teeth are great! They gave me a big bag of hay. I am still a little nervous about potty issues but his gut is fine they say. No fever. I am still going to be watching poop like a hawk. I panicked this morning when he didn’t eat his veggies but they said because I put the bene-bac on there and they didn’t recommend him needing it.
This mama is going to get some rest!
LOL !! Welcome to the team BOB !! LOL
An infection on anyone’s privates would make us ratty !!
Glad to hear all is OK.
You’re on poop patrol now!! Like us all
I wonder if you could ask BB to change your BB name…..
or keep it for sentimental sake…. ![]()
I am still a nervous wreck. I am sure they would of been kinder and more thorough, like a urine test, if I indicated I had more money.
He just wants to sit on an old tee-shirt. I know cats can do that with urinary tract infections. Too be comfortable. They just won’t answer any more questions really
More poops! Plenty of eating and drinking. I still can’t find and pee. This is really concerning me. I am searching the internet and of course convincing myself of the worse cases. How can there be no pee for days? Wouldn’t he be so much sicker?!?
It does seem like he normally drinks more.
I am reading all of this stuff about calcium build up and blockage, stones etc…
Any thoughts?
Vet didn’t offer any more testing I guess because I don’t have much money.
Please Bob just pee already!
Bob! How cute =)
No pee for days would definitely make him really, really sick, so my guess he’s peeing somewhere. Look closely.
A bunny with a urinary tract infection tend to pee often, but very little at a time. You often see them straining to pee. Did the vet give him any meds? What type of infection on his privates does he have, did they say?
I will have to look at the antibiotics again. Buuuttt….
We have poop and pee!!!
So happy!
I’m so glad to hear that Bob is doing better and both pooping and peeing now
It’s not terribly uncommon for bunnies to undergo a sex change either ![]()
Yay, it’s really funny how excited we bunny owners can get at poop and pee, but congrats all the same! ^_^
Ok I am trying to stay calm. There are a few mushy poops and one of those is a cep…the bigger ones that he is suppose to eat, and in the 4 or so months I have had him, I have never seen one.
Oh and he figured out I was sneaking the meds into the banana, so I just had to force them. I feel so bad.
Oh and why would the vet say they have never heard of bene-bac. They are recommended all over the place for rabbits. They said to not give it to him.
That doesnt’ sound like a smart comment from the vet. I’d keep up with the benebac. The directions on the packet have worked very well for my bunnies. I dont’ give it to them regularly just when Lancelot has belly trouble. He has a sensitive belly. The other 3 are always healthy. The packet will tell you how much per body weight for day 1, 3, 5, 7, and then once a week. But by day 7, you should see much improvement.
It’s a bit odd that a vet in this day and age hasn’t heard of benebac. Probiotics are really big right now with both humans and pets. A good, sturdy and diverse gastrointestinal microbiota is extremely important for our and our pets’ health.
I’d still give it to him. You can’t overdose a probiotic, the “surplus” gets pooped out “unused”. But it’s of course better for your wallet not to overdose.
Some poop irregularities are to be expected after a bout like this, and while he’s on antibiotics, since antibiotics kill off some of the intestinal bacteria.
How is Bob now? Any better? I am shocked at the fact that the first vet refused to see him! I’m pretty sure most vets allow some sort of payment plan if money is an issue, that’s very irresponsible of them! I’m following this thread with my fingers crossed for him. You could try putting him on your lap, see if that encourages him to pee :p Seriously though I hope he is peeing okay now, I’d love an update. You seem to be doing a brilliant job of looking out for him so pat yourself on the back please!
He is doing great! Angry and hides from me for now because I am mean with his antibiotics.
The vet that is recommended, I drove there and sat there begging just for them to peek at him. Wouldn’t even look at him, said most likely they will just euthanize him. I lost my mind and called my mother and she paid for the visit and meds. They offered to other tests. They were really rude.
I have been talking to a woman from our local house rabbit society. I am going to bunny 101 Wed, and then once I can join with the fee, they have an amazing selection of stuff. Like the first aid kits, and fresh hay from Montana, homemade cookies, even a lady that does the pine cones. She explained not to take the doc or staff to personally yet. They are just frustrated with all of the abandoned rabbits. I guess it’s just super common that people get them for their kids and don’t take care of them etc. The house rabbit society has 400 of them and 200 in foster. It costs $70,000 a year for them.
She treated with me with the utmost respect and explained bene-bac. She said it’s ok but there are just much more quality kinds.
I look forward to my bunny 101 especially since we learn about taking a temperature.
Anyhow, he is pooping and peeing, just being a bit bratty.
We thank you for all of the love.
Glad to hear he is doing better.
I think it’s so awful how often we hear of vet being rude. ![]()
