  Hi everyone,
  
  my bunny is a blue eyed white, and he has been sitting in his pee. Like, after he pees he just stands in it for a while, then hops off. This has led to the bottom of his feet getting yellow/brown and wet. I understand that this can’t be good for his skin, and I’ve tried to use damp and dry cloths to rub it off, but he hates me touching his feet; he’ll just run away. He does clean it himself every once in a while, but it doesn’t seem often enough. Any ideas on how to get the urine out?

  He does use a litter box, doesn’t he, and isn’t just peeing on the floor and sitting in puddles? What kind of litter are you using? Is his litter box large enough and do you clean out the wet areas every day? You may have to use something different or get one of the litter box screens. They are sold here in the BB store, but I think they are out of stock right now.
  
  It is not good for his feet to be constantly wet. That can lead to fur loss and irritation and you also don’t want him tracking pee through your house. You could try setting him down on some ultra absorbent dish towels and holding him there to try to wick away the pee without really touching his feet. You can also use baby cornstarch powder to clean him using a dry method.
  
  The best thing is to prevent it from happening in the first place, either with different litter or a litter screen, rather than trying to clean or dry his feet.
  
  I assume that he is peeing normally and not straining or dribbling on his feet, as he might if he had a UTI.

  Yes, he uses a litter box and has the free run of my basement. He’s using newspaper and hay, and I usually clean it out twice a day. I’ll try getting some Yesterday’s News litter and see if that works. In the meantime I’ll set down some tissues and let him sit there for a while. Thanks!

  If you are using sections of newspaper in his litter box, that is likely the problem. Even cut or or torn up newspaper is not going to work as well as other litters. Liquids puddle up on newspaper for a little while before soaking in. Even after they soak in, you are left with soggy paper. Yesterday’s News or a pelleted pine such as Feline Pine, or pelleted aspen, such as Aspen Supreme would work better.
