when i got willow spayed i had high hopes that her aggression would tone down quite a bit. that was a lot of the reason why i got her spayed, other than the giant risk of ovarian cancer. i heard that spayed bunnies are a lot calmer, but willow has gotten worse! she’s digging and chewing my rug(a lot of damage has been done!!), digs out her litter box so her pellets go EVERYWHERE, biting clothes and also bit my mom and brother quite a few times in the past week. has yet to bite me though. she also doesn’t cuddle or ever let us pick her up, which is fine because she never used to like it before, but i had hoped she would allow us to handle her a little more.
i’m just wondering if it takes a little while for the calmness to set in? she’s 10x more aggressive than she was before spaying!

Some rabbits can go into a post neuter or post spay craze, where they become hyper or aggressive. It’s the fluctuating hormone levels that cause the problem. It makes those certain rabbits go into an overload. It will probably take a month for her to settle down.

You are right in thinking it often takes a while before a spayed girl bunny calms down. Anything from 2 weeks to 6 months is normal although it doesn’t often take as long as 6 months. Before calmness sets in, you often see a worsening of hormonally driven behavioral problems -like aggression, pee- and poopmarking, mounting toys etc. It’s so common it even has a name of sorts, it’s called a “post spay craze” or a “post neuter craze”.
