The other day I rescued three 3 week old kittens. I am planning on giving them up for adoption when they are about 2 or 3 months old. My bunny (6 months old) is extremely skittish. We haven’t introduced him to the kittens, but if we decide to keep one of the kittens we will eventually have to. My bunny heard one of the kittens meow the other day, and he rammed himself into his cage over and over until he squeezed through the tiny bars (I still don’t know how he did it; the bars are about an inch wide and he’s a fairly large bunny). He screamed in pain when he went through the bars and hid under the couch for a couple hours, all because he heard a tiny kitten meow. How should I go about introducing them to each other, and how can I prevent my bunny from having such a reaction? I’m afraid he’s going to have a heart attack caused by one of these reactions. The only other time he has had this kind of reaction was when he heard an unfamiliar noise (a case of water bottles being carried – it was squeaky). Please help!!

Oh wow! For me it’s the other way around, my cats are terrified of my rabbit. Perhaps with time he will get over his fear. Maybe he just doesn’t like squeaky, high-pitched sounds (it sounds similar to a rabbit being snatched by a predator).
