Hello everyone,
I have a 5 year old mini Rex, I’ve had her since she was 10 months. She is a sweet girl, litter trained, knows some tricks, does the occasional run to grandma’s house with me and is okay with travel. I litter trained her about a month after i got her, she’s very smart. I’ve bounced around once I was in college and she came along the random places I was at.
Every place I went to she always had about a room that 2-4 feet by 4-8 feet. Rarely in a cage. I’ve always wanted to let her have free roam but I’ve never had more than that give her, or more than a bed room that I owned for myself. I would let her out to my room for her to run around whenever I was home.
However, about a month ago I moved into a small basement apartment and I was so thrilled to finally let her do whatever she wanted. And so I have her litter box set up in my closet and she can go wherever… but she doesn’t. She is in the closet at night to sleep but then in the morning I open her door, she comes out and sits under my desk… For hours! My goodness! Some days in the morning i get up around 5-6 and when I let her out then she’ll run around, but then 10-20 minutes later she’ll just be right back under my desk again. Is this okay behavior? I only have one window because it’s a basement and it’s in the bedroom and she doesn’t really go in there so I thought she just can’t tell what time it is. So, I always turn on her light in the day and shut it off at night.
My question is, is this normal behavior? She never used to be so lazy when I’d let her roam before.
My next question is, chewing… i need some more secrets for chewing! I thought I had her under control, then I found a big hole in my wall… what?! She’s never ever chewed walls. However, the place i am at has a lot of parts of the wall not completed and the carpet isn’t down all the way everywhere… so what other secrets do you all have for chewing? I’ve tried having her everywhere but the problem places, I’ve got more chew toys (but she gets bored of them and I have to get different ones often) or covering it up with a chew toy, or just covering it up with furniture… I’m not sure what else to try. I can’t leave her unattended now because of the possibility of her chewing something.
Any suggestions on either of these?
