We had a branch come down on our power lines a couple nights ago, power company removed it last night and this morning I harvested all new perches from it for Dory’s cage and lots of foliage. Yet it looks like I haven’t taken anything from the branch there’s still so much more there. If only it was bunny safe, they could have a field day too.

I’m hoping she’ll use the lower perches, I didn’t really have any down there before so it was essentially wasted space, hoping she’ll use it.

Breintje was a sad little bun this weekend: we were at a LARP and he was staying in my BFs house. A roommate took care of him for the weekend, and we’ll take him back to my place tomorrow when I’ve cleaned up all our LARP stuff.

Yes he doesn’t chew on them at all. He’s never has, I have several dollars worth of cord protectors, I haven’t had to use them at all. I check the cords 3 times daily for nibble, not a one. I guess I got lucky?

(c)I have my laptop and other cords wrapped up for precaution, but the cord he is on, is normally pulled up on those little command hooks, where he can’t reach them, I just had it down to charge my phone. I haven’t had to use them.

@Ellie, those look like my bed sheets (thanks to Timbu). The other morning I was getting tired of him attempting to chew the sheets and kept prodding him off the bed. So he just decided he would start at them from underneath the bed. Im lying there listening to him doing something there. Look down and he’s pulled the sheet through the slats and proceeded to make confetti out of it.

lol, Jersery, that’s too funny! One of mine (haven’t figured out who yet) is getting into the carrier which I keep beside the cage, and pulling the curtains through the tiny gap and nibbling holes in it. Fortunately, I bought cheap curtains to replace the ones that were here when we moved in for this exact reason. However it’s interesting to me that they don’t show any interest in chewing the curtains otherwise, only when in the carrier and they can pull it through. Probably because they know they’re hidden in there too.

Got some good pics recently of the bun (Pippins) and the cats (Martini and Tucker).  Both cats are starting to become less and less afraid of her, but Tucker still won’t really let her come close enough to sniff him.  Martini will tolerate being sniffed unless it’s anywhere near her back end!

Awwwww your kitty is so adorable.  I love fluffy, floppy kitties =D  Martini is a very sweet and floppy cat, I’m pretty sure she is related to a Ragdoll cat somewhere down the line.  My other cat Tucker is more reserved and less domestic, but extremely sweet to the ones hes bonded with (like me luckily!)

Also I love the hutches we have, I think mine is a smaller version.  I plan on upgrading or trying something different in the future because the wooden flooring and wooden legs have quite a bit of pee soaked into it.  Mostly from my previous bunny but Pippins likes to pee on the wooden flooring right above the ramp as well as her litter box.

Awaiting a reaction now from the company where I applied three weeks ago. They hadn’t sent me anything in response, so I had to phone them and ask for an update. (Shivers, I’m really phobic about phonecalls with strangers, especially important ones like this.) The receptionist was quite curt over the phone and tried to cut the conversation off. She said: “Ah yes, I’ve seen something on the mail about that, I’ll send it to you today. Goodbye.” Yikes, that total lack of enthousiasm already sounds like there will be a rejection. It would surprise me if it was otherwise. Nothing to do but wait now…

Breintje picked up my mood again splendidly, and I’ve been cuddled and nudged all morning. Nothing to lift your spirit like a cup of tea with your bun, so I brewed him a cup of hay-tea, and I had a nice relaxing herbal tea for myself. Very nice mix: chamomile, spearmint, lemongrass, hawthorn, tilia flowers, orange blossoms and valerian.

So here’s Breintje with his cup. He immediately started drinking it, and did a little happy dance afterwards. Then he proceeded to lick my face until I was covered in bunny spit and sweet-smelling hay-tea. Hehe, you silly little bun, you always pick me up

Woah! Hay tea? Do you just pour hot water over hay and let it cool for your bun? I might try that!

I really wish Reese could be a free range bun. In 5 years when I get my own house, I’m going to make sure Reese has the best life.

Yup, that’s basically the recipe! Pour boiling water over a handful of hay in a large mug, let it brew and cool down to at least luke-warm temperature. Then drain the fluid into a water crock and serve to your happy bun. Make sure it’s cooled down properly, so an enthousiastic bun doesn’t burn its mouth. They absolutely adore the smell, and Breintje knows what will be coming as soon as he smells the tea brewing. Nose up in the air, periscoping *sniff sniff sniff*.

You can also use hay tea to syringe-feed to a bun who refuses to drink because of a health issue. The water has some minerals and nutritional elements from the hay. Not much, but every bit helps.

Hehe, so had Breintje. He just couldn’t let it pass that I was eating this tasty treat all by my self. He jumped on the couch and completely tore up the thing until crumbs were flying everywhere. Then he dived under my arm to lick some crumbs off my pants, and got crumbs all over his head and back.

Oh, that’s great news! Hay tea is advised by most Dutch vets for buns who are dehydrated, post-operation recovery or in case of diarrhea. It’s the equivalent of ORS solution for humans.

I hope he’ll start to drink it by himself soon. Healing vibes for Podge!

I *heard* that raspberry bunicorns aren’t that rare, but people often mistake them for regular bunnies as they have a tendency to eat their own raspbihorns. So its actually spotting them with horns intact that is rare.
Muchelle is pretty lucky to have her very own though! So cute!!

Hey Odette – how funny – I’ve just spent an hour with a friend making my living room look just like your photo !!!

I have got 2 cages, one each end (put on sideways rather than longways as you have) and Zou will have to go in one tomorrow whilst workmen are here – she will NOT be happy. Thankfully it’s only one day. (I hope). I will let them out alternately. Does Odette not want to jump over yours?

I found Henry ON TOP of the cage just now! I can’t believe he didn’t hurt himself !! Needless to say, then xepn was made smaller so than one of the grids could be put on the top of the cage !!

I’ve been out the last few days with an awful cold(It could actually be man flu), Yumi has been my self heating teddy bear for the most part and almost the perfect little companion to nurse me back to health.

Except in the morning time(or when she wants something) when she leaps dramatically onto my face to wake me up.

She also has started to use my hands like a head rest.

No, learnt everything here – au pair first, learning “weewee” “poopoo potty” “nightienight” with the kids – things like that… and a serious of life choices / meetings led me to be here a good few years later…

Yes, it does seem like a nice bunny site – seems the founder of it & set up bunny rescue and has written books about house rabibts but had problems with the overpowering egotistical committee of the resuce and so she resigned and is now only linked to the website.

I’m just reading up on bonding and she advises against ‘stress bonding’ or car journeys….

English is a million times easier than French because English is everywhere.

Chewie had one of those hares… he booped it with his nose a few times and then studiously ignored it for a year. It was eventually adopted by one of my foster buns.

French is hard because until American culture started really infusing it with pop anglicisms, it was a language largely unchanged since the 16th century when its grammar was first officially documented (a dictionary too!).

Umm… right. I must be sicker than I thought. I just burst into happy tears at the end of David Copperfield.

To be fair – today he was squished in a mid-size cage with his big litter tray (Zou had the big cage!)

So, when the workmen left I rearranged the kitchen with barriers to stop Kanga-Henry who today has discovered he can jump up onto the top of the cage !!   (ouch!)  and several times…..

So I created the perfect barrier…. or so I thought! As I turned my back I heard the familiar noise of a cage rattle….

As if butter wouldn’t melt !!!  Needless to say I have NOW made perfect Henryproofing…. (until he works that out as well !! )

Barrett, I’ll try to get a measurement on Odette. She’s definitely not that long, but they do have similar body shapes and markings. Patton has those long, beautiful ears though. I think Odette is a little darker. What’s odd is Patton and Odette’s baby photos didn’t look a ton alike. I brought Odette home at 12 weeks, but I have photos of her brother at 5 weeks.

Azerane, I love that fleece print too. They have such cute stuff out.

Vienna, Odette I hate to break it to you, but once my boy learned to cage climb and jump out of an enclosure, no matter what I did, he never stopped…infact he taught Yumi to do it too!

Barrett, Odette is 17″ from head to end of tail. She had her feet under her, so that’s as good as I could get. That’s longer than I expect for a mini lop. She seems to be still growing, though she is six months old this week.

Yeah French Lops may not be the most active of breeds, but they DO know how to jump! I remember the day I learned to keep the chairs pushed in at the kids table.

Love it! So cute. I’m determined to capture a picture of Silas’s “dead bunny” flop, but so far it’s gone by the time I grab a camera.

Anybody else have a hair tie and glittery object collecting bunny? This just happened a minute ago. Last year for Christmas my brother intentionally packing my kids gifts in shiny confetti. Very happy bunny! BTW, I promise you, he doesn’t eat any of it although we usually don’t let him keep it for long because it makes me too nervous. Sometimes he brings it to me in a pile at my feet (heart swoon) but most of the time he just puts stands of found ribbons or hair ties in a corner of his tray or his litterbox. This has made for some interesting garden finds after his litterbox is dumped in the compost.

This picture is also exhibit A of how much of a non-chewing/not-attracted-to-cords bunny I lucked out with. Makes me look like a horrible bunny proofer though!

Chelsea- I love Silas’s name! And a hair tie collection!our bunny Hazel collects things in the closet of my art room (where she lives) I have found clothes, paper, fur, some figurines, clothes patterns, a shoe…..all in one big nest. I’m torn between whether is should clean it up or let her have it…she’s worked so hard and all lol.

It’s not the jumping, its the constant, constant looking for food, moving around, restlessness, searching. All. The. Time.

It’s starting to worry me.

Here’s a pic of a dishevelled and sleepy Alfred. His ear is bald because that is where the vet put the cannula when he was desexed.

I currently have one pumpkin and one rabbit, but the rabbit is non-compliant. So you just have to imagine Bam with a beautiful Hokkaido pumpkin.

Albert looks like he has a thing or two to say to that vet.

I’ve been looking at “Regarding the secret life of rabbits” comics and wanted to share this one:

Poor baby bunny!!!! LOL

The barriers are 3ft 6in high.
Since the photos I have now put the barriers in front of his cage and moved the cardboard box, so no more stepping stones !

However he’s just thrown himself against the barriers with paws inbetween the grids. Its like he’s playing the game where a human wears a velcro suit and trampolines up against a huge velcro target. it’s sort of funny, but I am genuinely worried he’s going to hurt himself. He runs so fast towards me right into the barriers.
I wonder if he’s got a sight problem too…. (not when I’ve got food in my hands though!).
He’s so so so hungry when I come towards him that he literally slides and falls off his shelf…. or jumps so hard he flies into the cage door which is open.

Alfred’s Minion– thank you! Alfred is such a sweet, sleepy boy. His little face is beautiful.

Bam, I googled Hokkaido pumpkins. Those look tasty. I haven’t seen them here.

Hmmm nice idea but…. the painkillers stopped 48hrs after the op, so, 10 days ago now 

Althooooough… he is still on antibiotics –  Xeden Enrofloxacin. (But the breeder says he was a guzzleguts before the op, so it’s maybe just how he is).

I asked the head vet about deworming him (still not done) and he said all in good time – ie, let him recover from neuter first and let his haematoma dissolve down and go away. Fair enough.

I’ve brought home a willow branch, half each, though i’m not giving him too much after it was suggested too much could send them a bit bananas. And hoo-ra life is quiet for a short while, he is chomping away at that…. ahhhhhhh bliiiiss

I’m going to say this again (for probably the 10th time, hehe ) that Chom and Odette could totally be twins, I can’t get over it!!

Things have been okay of late – although we had a small blip last weekend where he wouldn’t eat all day again ? but simethicone, belly rubs, critical care and at night time he slowly started to nibble again. Took him a few days to get back to normal eating and pooping. I’m resigned to the fact that this is going to happen every few weeks are so. Thankfully it has never been as bad as the first time when he was in full stasis!

I so wish I had never let him go to that bunny boarder while we were on honeymoon – but how were we to know!

This was taken last night, western horizon about 2 hours after sunset. My second serious attempt at star photography, it’s very challenging but I just love the result.

Then this stunning bird. Scarlet-chested Parrot. One of the rarest bird species in my state and a privilege to see. I had good directions to their location and had to sit and wait for an hour and ten minutes before I saw the female for about 10 seconds  10 minutes later this male flew in and perched nicely for 30-45 minutes. If you hadn’t guessed, I’m a bit of a bird nerd.

I have some star pics I took on my beach in Malawi – the sky is the most incredible shade of indigo… just magical, isn’t it that we can capture so much beauty (birdie too… and buns goes without saying)

@BubblesJo, yes my DSLR has served me well. I have a good lens, but my body is an older entry level 2010 model. It needs an upgrade desperately but I just can’t afford it. It has served me very well though.

A yellow-plumed honeyeater. One of the most abundant birds in the area at the moment.

We saw I think four different species of dragon, this one is a Mallee Military Dragon

The very well known Central Bearded Dragon. There was actually one that hung around our campsite every day as well. We saw about 5 of these.

We found a Beaded Gecko while spotlighting

And a male Splendid Fairywren, just gorgeous Snapped this one right near our tent. Realised I’ve labelled the file wrong, oh well.

Thanks so much. Hubby suggested we stay an extra night while there but out of phone range we had no way to contact our friend feeding the pets. Regarding the fairywren, tough question. I’ll say yes, common in suitable habitat We saw a number of them while we were there, they live in family groups as well so where there’s one, there’s more, although the females and younger males only have a blue tail and not the full blue body.

 I second that question! What lens are you using? I have a 70-300 lens I use for nature photos, but the f isn’t the best for birds. Big ass marine mammals tough, it works pretty well for those

I doublechecked on my camera. It’s from 2006, a Canon EOS 400D (Rebel XTi is North America). A solid ten years with me, and still going 

Haha, my main lens is a 100-400mm. For some photos I’m quite close, for others like the Scarlet-chested Parrot, I’m not. I’ve just cropped the images after to the desired composition Even if close, considering how tiny some of the birds are they still don’t always fill as much of the frame as I’d like. Here’s a parrot and fairywren image before being cropped. I was probably 4x as close to the wren than the parrot, but the parrot is probably 4x bigger than the wren  Had to keep distance from the parrots because it was a known nest site.

Haha ! Yes good ole cropping ! Well that make sense then….

Beautiful photos, Azerane. If I lived somewhere where the biggest birds weren’t mosquitoes, I might go camping. Though, I think Louisiana does have a large variety of birds. Our tourism spots will often include birdwatching and all the offices here have an Audubon print. Google tells me 100 million migratory, nesting, and wintering birds in Louisiana. You need to come visit!

Awwww, don’t I just have the cutest fluffiest nurse around? I’ve been having major shoulder pain lately, especially in the tender area right underneath the armpit. There was so much tension there that even the intercostal muscles (between the ribs) were acting up. That caused some problems with breathing, because you subconsciously breathe differently if it hurts. So, rough morning at the fysio today. The tension is gone, but I feel like a sqeezed and bruised tomato. My back was red as well. I was so lucky that a friend of mine wanted to drive me to the fysio and back, so I wouldn’t have to take the bus whilst under the influence of my meds. 

Back home Breintje immediately checked up on me as soon as I settled on the couch. I’m so blessed with his love and care

Just see that look and that posture. He’s really asking me: “You okay?”

Let’s see if this makes you smile? *Lick* Aww look at his tiny pink tongue. *Squee!*

Oh, and I officially declare it cuddle-time!

Well the way i see it, popcorning is from a stationary position. Literally, bun will be sniffing a piece of carpet and without them realising find themselves a foot up in the air!!

Odette does that. I call it her harrier jump because she jumps straight up like a harrier jet.

She always looks a bit surprised at herself when she does it.

Though I’ve never caught this on film. I’m impressed that you caught Henry.

I posted a pic of Sterling on one of my FB groups and someone made this. I think it’s perfect.

In general the rule is no rabbits cause Yumi chews the upholstry , and Sampras tries to check in my mouth to see if that’s where I hide the treats if Im leanign back.

Reesebun- Sampras(grey and white) mom was a lionhead and his dad was a mongrel “standard”(fairly sizable) rabbit. We dont know why he stayed so small though, his parents were both big buns
Yumi is a lionheadxAngorra, so Im told, but I never saw her parents so I dont know for sure!(She’s too small for me to believe she has a true angorra cross in her)
So my bunnies are mongrels!

He’s getting big, he weighs just about 12 lbs now. Although he might be a pound lighter once he gets neutered… 

Oscar is not at all impressed by his size.
