I have exciting news I am moving into my own house in three weeks and Finn will be a free range bunny again!

Which is good because he did not transition well to being cooped up haha.

At the moment Finn is set up with a 48 inch dog crate and an x pen attached to that. Because he will be free range again i’m thinking of replacing the dog crate with a smaller cuter looking cage that will take less space up. Basically just something for a home base so he feels secure. If I ever have to lock him up (like when my grandma visits like once a week because she is scared of animals -_-) I could lock him in that for a short time or attach the x pen to make a bigger space for him, but pretty much he will be free range 24/7 like he used to be.

I might just have the x pen as his cage since I can make that any size, but i’m wondering if anyone has any ideas to make his home base/cage area look cuter? I am going to buy him one of those ikea doll beds cause they are adorable XD http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/20167838/

One thing is I would like a cage that looks more like a house and less like a cage if that makes sense? But that seems hard to do haha.

A children’s play house would make a cute little rabbit cottage, however it you got a wooden one you would need to make sure it wasn’t treated timber. But there are plastic ones as well. You would have to block the windows somehow, perhaps with aviary mesh but it would look super cute Then the xpen around it could be the garden fence

Otherwise, a large dog kennel is also a little bit like a house with a few modifications.

So glad he gets to enjoy being free range again

@azerane Ooh thats a really good idea

Im so glad too, since he has been locked up he has been getting into so much trouble, poor baby is bored out of his brains My new house will have stairs so he will have lots of fun running up and down them I think haha.
Hmm if you had a dog kennel or something that could be the hide and not actually need to keep him locked up and the x pen could be what is capable of being closed. He loves tunnels and hides so I still want something inside the x pen that is a bit more closed since the x pen is so open. I just think the dog crate is so ugly which is why I want to change to something else XD

When he was free ranged before he would go most of the time free range with only being locked up maybe once a month, mostly if visitors were around that don’t like rabbits… (why would you not like rabbits? XD)

I think thats one reason why he is so annoyed at being locked up because before he never was haha.

Some rabbit hutches or chicken houses look rather sweet and can be used indoors.
Check out pinterest for both indoor and outdoor rabbit housing for more ideas.

So if you had a visitor and want to keep him contained, you’re just thinking to have him away in the x-pen? So you don’t need something that shuts up (like a hutch) just something he can hang out in that gives more enclosed feel but he can hop out into xpen whenever he likes. Is that what you’re thinking?

Since your planning to go to ikea, check out the BUSA play tent and adjoining tunnel. It’s one I have on my shopping list.

@jerseygirl Yes that is exactly what I’m thinking, so the purpose is more for him to have something to feel more secure and for it to look nicer in my room than the dog crate does XD
I might not even lock him in the x pen just close the door of the room. Its funny I suggested that to my mum and she freaked out haha, like people in Australia really don’t seem to understand rabbits not in cages XD

Ooh I love the look of that tent and tunnel you could make a cool tunnel system and change up where the tunnels were to keep him from getting bored Ikeas great.

Yes, I love that they have a lot of untreated safe wood items also.

                      Are you in Australia Ami?

ETA: Oops, I just looked at some of your other posts. I remember now, that you are.

You’ll meet more and more Australians that think like us. Rabbits indoors and hopping round the house.

I saw that tent and tunnel yesterday, showed hubby and he just laughed, haha. Pretty good price though and definitely on my shopping list too! There’s actually a tent set at Bunnings as well. I think the tunnel is attached though, can’t find it on their website but they definitely have it.

Ami, a rabbit inside is not a concept that my parents would have ever really thought of either, both being raised on farms etc, but they’ve just come to accept that’s what I do

Absolutely! I say get an xpen that you can close off. Lock even.

Sometimes bunny and visitors must be kept apart.
It’s true that some just don’t get along.
They can be nuisances and destroy things in the house.

To meet humane guidelines, ensure the xpen is big enough so the visitor can lay down in it
