Hi everyone,
I have 2, 3 month old female rabbits. Yesterday I noticed a couple of squished stools and one of them had a turd stuck to her. So I’ve been monitoring them very closely. Today I noticed a couple more squished poops, the same rabbit had a few more stuck to her and they were larger than normal, egg shaped and sticky. I also noticed a couple of those in the litter box. I found 2 turds stuck together with what looked like hair (string of pearls as they call it), and 1 turd with some mucus. And a couple very small ones. And a grape cluster poop. It also smells very different.
I feed them a very small amount of pellets in the morning, unlimited Timothy hay all day, and they get greens in the evening (romaine, kale and pieces of cilantro/basil here and there). I know most people say veggies at that age is not good but this was actually recommended to me by a vet when I first got them after the other bunny had a few stomach issues. Since I have started the greens they have done great and have been on them for about 3 weeks. (I’ve only had them a month). The only diet change has been, I gave them some spinach last night (which they have tried before in small amounts). I gave them each 1.5 leaves which is a little more than they’ve had before.
When I have googled all of these symptoms I’m finding it sounds like there many different things going on which I know can’t be everything
Large egg shaped: mega colon
hair in stool: from grooming herself
Sticky stools: diet changes
Smelly: infection
Small ones: gi stasis
I’m so confused by all of these things because I know it’s not all of them.
By the way she is still very playful, still eating hay constantly and eating morning and night which makes me think she’s ok.
Can anyone offer any advice? Could it be the spinach? Would this cause large sticky poop?
