I’ve had Attila the Bun for a few months now (coming close to a year) She is a spayed, senior bun who had been rescued from a hording situation where she was neglected and severely malnourished. When I first got her she was really timid, but as she regained her strength she started to get a little aggressive. Due to her prior situation, I excused the aggression, I figured she just needed time to get used to me and the new home after the stress she had been through, but in the past three or four months her behavior has only gotten worse. It’s to the point now that she will growl and bite or box at my hands when I put them in the cage to feed her, and she will growl or box or angrily thump her feet and bolt if I try to pet her or pick her up to get her in or out of her cage for playtime. If I even just sit on the floor while she’s out to play, she’ll just sit as far away as she can and give me the stank eye, and if I move she’ll do a kind of warning lunge toward me.
Does anybody have any tips to help remedy the situation? She doesn’t do well with my other rabbit either, so I’m afraid she’s just becoming a grumpy hermit with no social skills haha. Is there anything I can do to help calm her down so she won’t hate my presence at least? She’s pretty old, and I would like to make her senior years and easy and comfortable as possible, but that’s a little tough when we’re both just always frustrated with one another. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
