Hello bunny friends-
Here is my dilemma. I have fallen in love with a French Angora at a shelter. Problem: they said he has Syphilis and has been treated for it. They say it’s not curable, and not a good idea to adopt him since I have other bunnies at home.
This bun is neutered. He had a buddy (male) who also had symptoms and was treated. The buddy bun was adopted.
The lesions he had were never cultured. They treated with penicillin injections every day for one week. Symptoms disappeared and they stopped treating. He has not had another outbreak.
Questions:
1. Could this be something other than Syphilis since they didn’t test him for it?
2. If it is Syphilis, can he never be housed with other bunnies?
Obviously I do not want to put the health of my current buns in jeopardy. But if there is any hope that I could bring this little guy to his forever home, I’m going to fight like mad to do it.
I will be consulting a vet rabbit expert, but she is out until next week so I am seeking additional advice from you guys.
Thanks!
