Will flys do anything to my rabbit? My rabbit cleans his butt a lot and there is a stupid fly in my basement that I can’t find anymore.

As long as your rabbits behind is clean and he has no open wounds, a fly won’t do any harm. Flies are attracted to messy cages and/or litterboxes though. Especially if they’re wet the flies will lay eggs in them, this leads to unhygienic situations. Keep the cage and the litter box clean as other as possible, especially in warm weather. Check your bun regularly for a messy behind.

Flies can actually hurt a bunny by laying eggs around the anus if the bunny is moist or dirty there. The eggs then hatch. This nasty condition is known as fly-strike. The best thing is to check the bunny butt twice daily, and if he has a poopy butt, give him a butt bath and pat him dry with a soft towel. Poop attracts flies, so you don’t want him smelling of poop.

As bam said, flies love the smell of poop or anything bad, so make sure he is clean, in this weather flies breed a lot, I found some enjoying a tea bag that had only been out of my cup 10 minutes this morning.

Good news, I killed the pesky thing! I slapped it with a towel and it fell to the ground and then I squished it. No fly enters my house ?

My friend has at his house a bug zapper, he got it from Poundland, thats like a dollar store, it looks like a tennis racket, with battries in, you turn it on and when the fly touches it it gets a big shock, not recomended if you have little children or people with special needs or people who have sight problems like me, if you get one don’t leave it switched on and step on it with no shoes or socks on.
