Hello everyone
I’m new to this forum so please forgive me, I am at a bit of a loss. My rabbit, Cookie, is a year old. He has, since the age of 3/ish months, been a terrible sneezer!! I have been multiple times to the vets and mentioned his sneezing, which has constantly been put down to “allergies”. More recently, I have been away with my family and left him in the care of a lovely local rabbit hotel. Before taking him, I took him to the vets for his boosters and a wellness check, and tried to be more demanding with an explanation for his sneezing as I have been reading about it online and am worried I’m overreacting. The vet, again, put it down to being “most likely allergies” and said that because “he isn’t sneezing now” she can’t say or do anything. I was angry at how dismissive she was (not to mention how rough she was handling him!). I also thought that even if he was allergic to something, I was given no advice as to how to deal with this. She also said it probably isn’t serious as he is eating, pooping, and generally healthy.
I am most worried about his croacking noises that sound like they are coming from his chest, he actually sounds like a frog when he breathes. This comes and goes often, but his sneezing with nasal discharge occurs daily.
He appears to be a very happy rabbit, he is loving and loves to go in the garden for a big sprint.
Another issue is that I am reliant on parents (and also off to uni soon), so my main question is whether the vet is right to be so laid back about this or whether I should go to a different vet practice entirely.
I am such a worrier over Cookie, and find it hard to accept it being “just an allergy”. I do all I can to prevent dust, with no improvement. Any advice would be very appreciated!!! Cookie is such a sweetheart!!
Thanks in advance 🙂
