Baby boy Azerane?

I would like to dedicate the month of August to lagomorphs everywhere. Today, I feature an adorable “baby marmot” (LOL!). Also known as a Pika. Which, by the way, is in no relation to the marmot but is often seen scampering about in their vicinity.

In case anyone is wondering, I took that in Colorado last week.

They are only called baby marmots by tourists who see them scampering among the actual marmots. They are small, so they think they are baby marmots. I tried explaining this to a woman who was yelling “look at the baby marmots”, but she looked at my blankly when I said they were lagomorphs like rabbits…. not marmots.

I’m trialling out wood pellets in the tray for Dory’s cage today. Free newspaper and catalogues are great for catching mess, but it gets smelly really quick and is difficult to spot clean. So I’m hoping that a trial of the wood pellets in her tray will really help with that and then I can just scoop out the worst bits and top it up as needed. As an added bonus, it makes the cage look so much neater with an even wood colour at the bottom as opposed to white pages with black text and big bold red and yellow boxes and things from the catalogues. Much neater

Also, that Pika is so adorable! Would love to see one in the wild. I was excited enough to see different species of squirrel when in Oregon as opposed to the abundant grey squirrel.

Azerane, by mr Azerane I meant your unnamed white bunny =) Not your husband =) He might be pale but he’s not a bunny, so he doesn’t qualify. 

For newcomers: The first day of a new month you should say white bunny – white bunny – white bunny for some reason that I think forum leader LPT’s mother could explain(?). I think it’s for good luck? Good weather? Good health? Anyway, in the thread we said the names of three white bunnies, although it so happened that one of them doesn’t have a name yet. It’s officially way too friggin too hot. I accidentally touched the metallic release handle when I got in the car an hour ago, and I have a painful blister now.

I hate it when that happens Q8, don’t touch the metal of the seatbelt either! That’s the one that usually gets me.

Was about to go to bed when the bunnies decided to have a lover’s tiff. So now I’m paranoid about going to bed in case they really go after each other, just going to watch them for a while (oh no, watching cute bunnies ). On the plus side I’ve had binkies from Miss Bunn today.

It was! When I had gone back and read it in the right context. 

I don’t know anything regarding the silica litters but maybe avoid clay also. The bentonite in clay litter is apparently linked to hypokaelemia.

So still no hair growth?

Bentonite is a form of clay, it has very fine particles and become almost like a gel when you mix it with water (or pee, I guess). (I only know this because I used to dabble in ceramics. Bentonite is often used in glazes to prevent the glaze particles to sink and cake up in the bottom of the container.)

There is aspen shavings for use in cat litter-boxes. That seems pretty non-toxic to me. Not a lot of fumes like with feline pine and safe to use even for bunnies.

Moxie’s birthday is in three days! And Snickers’ birthday is on the 31st.

I’m totally over the moon: I’m finally allowed to take a sneak peek behind the scenes on the clinical neurophysiology department of a local hospital!!! Clinical neurophysiology is the part of medicine which diagnoses and treats conditions within the brain and nervous system (i.e. epilepsy, MS, sleep disorders). The education you need to become a CNP technician is on-the-job training in a hospital together with a self-study course.There was a job offer for a trained CNP technician on a job website, but I decided to take the leap (in Dutch we say: “I put on my naughty shoes”).

I called the department that I was thinking of enrolling into the CNP training course, but that I didn’t know if I could actually do the job because of my rheumatism. My question was: can I take a sneak peek at the department so I can see if I can handle the job physically? Most of the time I get very negative reactions, but this time I got: “That’s great, we love enthousiastic people. We’ll also have an opening next year for the on-the-job training, so you’re welcome to take a peek behind the scenes. Would next thursday be good?”.

So looking forward to next week! Maybe I’ll finally get to know if the job is suitable for me. It’s not a very common job, and most of the prospective students are already medical professionals recruited from their own hospital staff. So it’s pretty difficult to get into as an outsider. Let’s see what happens next week, I’m excited!

5 or more short repeated signals mean danger or I don’t know your intentions, generally because there’s another boat mean there’s anither boat getting in the way.

Hmm… no one tooted the last time I took the sailboat out, got hit by a dust storm, and had to dash across the path of an oil tanker to make it back to the marina before the gale force winds hit… Then again, most vehicles around here are quite homocidal.

The tanker might not have seen you. That can very well happen because it almost happened to my brother last night. He’d let his non-sailing friend be the look out and suddenly his friend said “That couldn’t be a big boat over there, could it?” And what do you know, 40 yards there was a big tanker. It was dark, but still :/
It went well but it might not have.
Today I’m sailing with them but the wind dropped so there’s been very little sailing.

I’m hungry, but too lazy to make food. (AKA I just got back from a cleaning job, and I am beat, not *really* lazy) =/

Boo… around here it seems like the best sailing weather is during the work week.

I have just spent 90 mins filling out an application form for a job that’s just appeared on a website and needs to be in by Monday (!)… the previous job that I looked at, but didn’t apply for, had an email address to send it to….  So 90 mins later after writing and rewriting the perfect words for them to JUMP out of the page amongst the other hundreds of identical application forms they’ll get, and I realise it has to be posted, no email address and no way josé that a snailmail will get to the UK by Monday…

Hence my angry faces

Does it specifically say applications have to be via post? Or there just isn’t an email addy to be seen?

Disney re-released their old 16Bit computer games for PC of Jungle Book, Lion King and Aladdin. I’ve been playing The Lion King and I just cannot get past the third level Such a tough game, I’m at the end of the level I just can’t beat the last set of hyenas, and it in no way seems reasonable to be able to do so. I’m only playing on normal difficulty.

Woke up ravenous. Ate a piece of bread, two boiled eggs, half an avocado, a handful of Chewie’s lettuce, a finger of feta cheese, and a cup of fresh orange juice. It’s now 7 hours later and I’m supposed to join friends for lunch – and I still feel completely full!

Just to se hi guys.
Got back from vacation few days ago. Bunnies are finally home and spoiled rotten by their care taker.
He had quite a few stories about Redfords behaviour lol. And a scar to show for.
Apparently Redford was chasing Bianca one evening with some amourous intention and our care taker thought he was a bit annoying to her so he separated them.
To calm down Redford a bit and apologize for it he brought him some banana (Redfords favorite). Redford comes to him, sniff the banana, ignores it and nips him strong in the hand and then just turns his bunny but.
Needless to say that was first and last time he separated him from his bun wife. Lol
Btw. When he brought them home they didn’t seem angry at all. Redford even come to me straight for the cuddles. I missed them so so much.

I was going to mention that after my last post about FB. To then discourage you from signing up as we might lose you to FB. Haha.
It’s another part of the reason I don’t fully use FB like it is intended. Because I’d lose far too much time and get pulled into far too many dramas.

Yes, FB can certainly be a time sap, that’s for sure and I spend far more time on there than I should. Although I know I’m far better with it than many people.

Trying to encourage Apollo to eat more hay. I think it’s him that has the small poops. I did notice today that he ate a fair bit of the cardboard that he was chewing, whereas Luna just chews, rips and shreds. So I’m hoping that by putting hay in all the cardboard places (toilet paper tube, cardboard box) he will be more inclined to eat the hay. He uses the litter box, but it’s like he’s too lazy to go in there to eat hay so he just goes without and eats cardboard instead when he doesn’t want to be in the box. Luna’s poops on the other hand are looking tip top! 5 star bunny poops.

Been playing more The Lion King game today, I managed to beat the level I was stuck on before and now I’m three levels beyond that The only trouble is it’s not a game you can save, so you have to play through until you run out of lives and continues, and then start over again the next time. It means I’m getting really amazing at the first three levels

I am feeling a little overwhelmed right now. Gahh. I am just imagining how busy it’s going to get (practically overnight) in the next couple weeks.
School is starting, Dance is starting, Drivers Ed is starting (which I’ll hopefully do this time), Babysitting during volleyball nights will be starting, Birthdays and Holidays all seem to be packed into the fall, running all 4 dogs EVERYDAY and cleaning up after the pets(including regular water changes for tanks), learning the ukulele, my cleaning jobs, volunteer work, babysitting most weekends (generally from 6:30 AM until 8 PM on saturdays), my daily exercising routine, and then making time to still have a social life, and get done all the daily chores and more, throughout the day. I also do all the cooking and cleaning since my mother works from 2pm-10pm.

I have already been feeling stressed the last couple days (over a guy who will most likely never like me back, such a stoooopid thing to be stressed about! ) and then the realization about me soon being busy from morning to night hit me like a sack of bricks. Also, I get anxiety, and this is NOT helping!
Okay! Complaining/vent over!

Um… Mox… there’s only one of you, right? You didn’t zap yourself with that raygun that makes copies of people, right? HOW can you do all those things? Egad, child! You amaze me. Yep. I’m amazed.

I said that I am home schooled, and it is still considered school, even if it’s at home. Then I was saying that I am working on doing college classes, to get college credits (you need a certain number of credits to graduate college), so that I’ll be ahead of the game once I get into college. Does that make sense?

Moxie, yes, but being home schooled means you have some flexibility, does it not? I would think you would be able to work around some of the things in your schedule. Then again, you do seem to be biting off more than you can chew. Maybe take a breather?

Being homeschooled does make it a lot easier (like I could do it at night if I wanted), but it all adds up the same.

Yay, great news for bunnykind! Two large supermarket chains in the Netherlands are banning all rabbit meat, because of the horrible living conditions of the animals.

Don’t forget BB in your list of responsibilities Mox.
Be careful not to wear yourself out too much. We all know how terrible it is when you have way too much to do and no time at all!

That is good that the Netherlands supermarkets are doing that! The poor meat bunnies always look so sad in their little cages when I see them online. I wish they let the bunnies actually run around like they do on organic cage free farms. (That’s what I get my rabbit meat from, rabbit is sooo good!)

I never have television time during the “Busy” season, and computer time is greatly diminished, but I will make sure I always keep you guys up to date!

The best part is, I almost bought the one particular fleece a couple weeks ago when it was on sale for $10, then today it was on sale for $5, so I got another one as well Had to change a fresh (yesterday) fleece already because somebunny peed on it while I was changing the litter tray

Thanks for the feedback, LBJ10! I don’t own a 13″ laptop (mine is 17.5″ because I like big screens), but I had this idea to use the 13″ inch compartment as a security-type pocket for my wallet and phone (paranoid about someone stealing it from the main compartment, otherwise I would’ve purchased the classic by now). Is it difficult to access the laptop section when the bag is loaded? The 13″ might also be too small to fit a hair straightener, pair of shoes & pants, and a small makeup bag (That’s the real need for me), even though it is 16″ deep. I was looking at the Kanken 2 (same size as classic but with sustainable fabric), but I heard conflicting reports on whether or not that had a separate laptop compartment. I’m 5’1, so I try to get bags that are easy for me to carry when loaded. But, yeah, thankyou for replying!

I’ve never liked putting a laptop in those padded compartments in any backpack. It’s a real pain in the butt to get your laptop in and out of them. But the Fjallraven ones are different because you don’t have to access the main compartment to get to the laptop compartment. So I suppose that’s a plus. It still feels unnatural on your back though, like there’s a board back there. When the laptop is in a separate sleeve inside the main compartment, it’s able to settle into a more natural position. Regardless, the main compartment would need to be big enough to hold the laptop though.

I thought the classic had an interior pocket (inside the main compartment). There’s a removable foam pad for your back that slips into the pocket, but you might be able to hide things in there.

Oh yeah, the laptop backpack also has padded shoulder straps. The classic doesn’t.

I see what you mean with the other backpack in the link. I had considered using the interior pocket. Two Youtube reviewers said it was a little tricky to get stuff out of the bag if it’s full, which makes sense.

Very similar, with slight differences.

The Kanken collection has the laptop partition closest to the straps, and the zippers don’t go down all the way.
They also say that the foam piece is a seat for hikers

Yes, I know which ones you were looking at. I was just showing you the difference. “Normal” laptop backpacks are like the one I posted. HUGE pain in the butt getting the laptop in and out of the bag when it’s full. I would think some of that would be solved by the Kanken laptop backpack, but you still have a board on your back. LOL Seriously, built-in laptop compartments fix the laptop in such an awkward place. At least I feel like it’s awkward. That’s why I always preferred a separate sleeve and putting the laptop in the main compartment. Of course, after I was in a car accident, I had to carry a tote bag on my arm for awhile. So switching my laptop to that was pretty easy since I had the separate sleeve.

Yeah, I think some people don’t care about that. For me, it was always really awkward. Oh and the car accident was in 2008. I was an undergrad at the time. I couldn’t carry anything on my shoulders because a vertebrae in my neck was pinching nerves.

Reese: We literally live for the other 8 months of the year when we have pretty fabulous weather (we’re SANDwiched between the desert and the sea).

I, for one, am living for a year or two from now when I move to a region with milder weather. Originally France, then plan was Canada’s west coast, now I’m tempted to brave the winters again and head back to Ontario because I found this amazing Masters program at the University of Waterloo that I REALLY want to do. Masters in Climate Change. Only one of its kind offered in Canada. Decisions decisions.

Hmm… yet again, I ascertain that I don’t feel any older. I guess all that drivel on the Hallmark cards is pure propaganda.

This could be a problem Going to have to hide away in the bedroom any time I want to record audio for a video, or just give Dory something to eat, lol.

Hoping to record it after dinner then have the video uploaded tonight (providing all goes well). Yay bunnies!

@ReeseBun: I do the same thing…Christmas, Birthday, Anniversary….I usually ask for things that make my being a Fur Baby Mommy easier for example last year for Christmas my husband asked what I wanted…I got a raised tub so bath time for Walker would be easier on my back….for our Anniversary I got a forced air blower that makes drying Walker go faster and it also helps blow out his coat when its shedding season…
Now that we have Sage I am sure that now I will be getting things for her as well

Does anyone know a type of dirt that would be safe for bunnies? I’m planning on using Reese’s old baby cage as a pot to grow some wheat grass!

I would assume that all dirt would be fine, as long as they did not contain any chemical fertilizers. I’d also be weary of manure, because you never know if the animal had parasites etc.
So IMO I’d just get some unfertilized dirt.

So many birthdays! Congratulations all!

Last week I told you guys about my visit the hospital’s epilepsy clinic. I had been interested in becoming a technician there, so I was invited to take a look around today. How different it was from what I expected, I’m really upset by what I saw and heard today… It turns out that they don’t really need tech savvy people, but that they want people with skills comparable to a nurse. They say that it’s all about empathy and comforting people, guiding them through the diagnostic tests.

They went on and on about their clinic’s focus on empathy, and that their personnel was expected to be exceptionally good with all kinds of people. Later the subject turned towards my illness… I told them that my limit (strictly set by doctors) is 24 hours per week, and someone chimed in: “Oh, I sure would have loved those 24 hours. I’m a busy mother of 3 but they wouldn’t let me do less than 32 hours. No way the hospital will allow you to work fewer hours than that!!”

Thanks, yeah, I’ve just been faking my rheumatism all along to get away with an easy 24-hour workweek… Boy, I sure do love slacking off! Well, I guess a job which requires as much empathy as demonstrated just isn’t right for me.

Blugh, I’m going to hug my bunny…

Poo to that, Ellie. Sounds like my employers: if you take more than the 6 sick days you get per year, you can get fired. In a work environment that combines an old toxic building, high stress, crazy weather/AC/heating, and children who never learn even the most basic of hygene habits, but rather get sent to school with the plague so they don’t bother anyone at home.

Watched “Pumpkinhead 2” the other day. I loved the first one, but boy, this one sucked. After a while I decided to pretend it’s a spoof movie, and it turned out great!

Thanks for all your kind words everyone. My dad and friends also think that this just wasn’t the right sort of place for me. Whilst I finished posting it and was browsing the forum, Breintje hopped up on the armrest of the couch. He sat next to my computer for a long time, licking my hands and getting hugged. I think we’ve been getting more attuned to eachother over the last weeks. Everytime I’m upset and unable to sit with him on the floor he comes to me, even climbing onto places he normally doesn’t like to sit on because they’re high up. Places like the armrests and the backrest of the couch, just to get close to me and lick my hands or my face. I feel so blessed to have the love and trust of such a delicate soul.

That is so incredibly sweet! <3 He gets extra (virtual) nose scritches from me for looking after his mama so well.

ETA: Loving the paint colour names, guys!  Im picturing a chart…  Will we have textured paints also, do you think?

Textured paints, but of course! Bunny fur throughout the paint, textures which look like scratch/nibble marks and of course: poops.

I think I’d paint my wall with the paint with fur in it. To match my clothes, carpets, cup of tea and my dinner. Bunny fur on everything! The little moult monster…

Raided the neighbours weedy verge again It was very overgrown and I noticed earlier this week he had started cutting it back (manually with hand pruners, have to admire the dedication) and he was getting closer to the plantain, so I just had to save it for the bunnies! Had a really nice day. We drove out to a nice park for a walk, saw some nice birds and some roos. The weather was absolutely perfect, mostly sunny, the lightest of breezes and about 17 degress celsius. We stopped at my favourite bakery for lunch and then dropped in at my mum’s as it was nearby. She’d made me an amazing chocolate cake! Man was it filling and delicious. And she packed what we didn’t eat into a big container that’s now on my dining table

Since getting home, I’ve brushed and cleaned out the bunnies. The amount of fur these two put out is incredible.

Moxie thanks you all for the belated birthday wishes. I can’t believe my baby girl is 3 now! Boy does time fly!

Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes! And the graduation wishes too! As you can see, we haven’t left yet. My husband is sleeping…..

I tell him every year that he’s a birthday ruiner.

Phew… home at last after a hectic 6ish hour marathon. But… my NEW CAR is now parked in front of my building, with a whopping 50km to its name. It’s a Geely Panda if anyone cares to Google it – I’d post a pic, but I’d have to go get my lappy, and I’m knackered, dehydrated, and ravenous. Which is why I’m waiting until tomorrow to remove all the plastic covering inside and pop in an air freshner etc. because I’m not keen on what Kuwaiti heat does to new car smell. lol

The colour is exactly that perfectly visible shade of key lime pie green, so I named him Kermit.

OMG Q8, how cute!!! It reminds me of a Prius C. I love green cars too. Wish mine was lime green, but I had to settle for the seaglass.

I’ve not been keeping up with BB as much as usual as I’ve been kept busy putting support packages in place for my eldest to start university next month. He has autism, and getting the help he needs organised is quite a challenge. Both boys get their A level results on Thursday, and my eldest will then know if he will be on the masters or the bachelors degree in physics. My youngest is confident about his A level results, but he also sat the much harder Cambridge Step papers 2 and 3 in maths, and needs a top grade on both to secure his place at Cambridge in October. 

And as some have spotted, we have just adopted, or been adopted by, two more unwanted buns, who are now wanted, loved and spoilt

I had a brainwave today and finally figured out a solution to my messy wall problem (Dory throws a lot of food, and capsicum stains… &nbsp I’ve had some big sheets of clear vinyl for the cage since I got it, but I couldn’t work out how I was going to hang it without punching holes and risking tearing it. But today I realised I could just hang it with bulldog/fold back clips, and then I can cable tie those to the cage. Should be a fairly easy method of removal when I need to clean it as well. Hooray! Clean walls, here I come  

Also, somebunny did mushy poops today and ruined the brand new adorable moose print fleece I just put in their cage yesterday Silly bunnies. Perhaps too much lettuce was had yesterday, I did introduce it carefully. No treats today = sad bunnies. With Bandit I never had to wash fleece, this lot, one load of fleece washing a week.

Colour me impressed, the thread on the bracket for Dory’s foraging wheel broke yesterday. I bought it at the end of May so e-mailed the shop about it. Not only did I get a response within 7 minutes, but will also be getting a replacement part. Very happy, especially since it cost me $30 and Dory loves it. Just as well because I’d been considering ordering from there again soon and I may not have, had they not offered a replacement/refund. Might be able to find some suitable toys for the bunnies too.

Just registered for an info night about E. cuniculi. I know what I think is a reasonable amount about it already, but a local exotics vet is holding an info night so I thought it would be valuable to go along.

I missed a bunch of movies this summer because my bf was away in field work and I felt bad seeing them without him… but now he’s back, so we’ll have to catch up!

I’m going camping tomorrow until Sunday, and I can’t wait! I really need me some nature time

I don’t really watch movies. I watch tv-series though. Just finished season 4 of the Wire.

My mom made me watch the 2-season British show called The Paradise. It was pretty addictive.

I just watched The Huntsman Winters War and Allegiant (the last of the Divergent series)
also found a Series on Netflix that I had never watched before and got a bit hooked – Supernatural

I don’t “go” to the movies anymore…way too overpriced!!!

My husband and I decided to “cut the cord” after Comcast raised their prices on us again…. so we no longer have normal tv instead we have Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Vudu all cheaper then our cable was.

I don’t have cable either. Netlix is pretty awesome! I usually have Friends in the background if I’m doing housework. And I’ve been following The 100 with the roommate and Stranger Things with the bf.

Supernatural is pretty great, especially the earlier seasons. I’m waiting for the last season to drop on Netflix

Also looking forward to Suicide Squad, but we’ll wait for the DVD release as well. €12 for a single cinema ticket is not normal anymore.

Yay, I was just told by our bunny-sitter that Breintje had been a very polite little bun. So proud!
I had to stay at my BF’s place because he had a nasty fever and he was too weak to get out of bed. All better now with a little TLC. And happy to hear that Breintje behaved himself towards our friend, not having a bunny-sitter to fall back on would be a big problem for us.

Bubbles: Just finished Stranger Things on the rec of a BB member and really enjoyed it.

LFB: My birthday buddy Chris Hemsworth can do no wrong. I used to watch Supernatural when it was originally airing on the WB (now CW??) and I warn you: it’s pretty darn addictive. lol

Due to censorship, I go to the cinema just once in a while for kicks, but I don’t have a TV subscription and can’t get Netflix or any online on-demand services. So I download torrents. Quite shamelessly. If I had alternatives, I’d consider them, but until then… I am a sad pirate.

This is my collection: movies, shows, and documentaries I liked enough to want to watch again. It’s not complete – Black Sails, Game of Thrones, Stranger Things, about 50 BBC documentaries, and a handful of new releases are on my laptop and so not catalogued yet.
