  Hello everyone!
  
  So I am hoping to get a holland lop (or two) sometime in the near future. I’ve been doing lots of research about them, but a lot of it seemed conflicting. My #1 question is: What is the best cage to buy? I want to get a cage that’s big enough for my bunny, but as I’ll most likely be living in an apartment, it’s not practical to buy something too large. It will be an entirely indoor bunny.
  
  I’ll most likely be buying only one bunny, since this will be my first time owning one. Pretty much the only place near me where I can get one would be a bunny rescue near where I live. But as the also adopt out previously bonded pairs, I feel like a may be tempted . Plus I don’t want the little fella to get bored when I’m not home. I’ll probably be home with my bunny(s) most of the day, except when I’m working. They will be caged while I’m away, but will probably have free roam of my bedroom when I’m there. I may also provide them with a play pen set up for when they leave my room.
  
  So I would really appreciate if you guys had any suggestions on the best cage setup! I need to know the best size of the cage for one bunny, and for two. Thank you so much for your help. And any tips or pointers for a first time owner would be awesome too!

  NIC grids are probably your best bet. You can create vertical space if floor space is limited. Plus you can add on as needed without a lot of cost.

  if you want two, is good to adopt a bonded and spay/neutered pair. Less to worry about $ for surgeries and potential fights.
  
  You can get an XL pet-store cage or dog crate if you only have one rabbit.
  If two, best to do DIY like NIC and pen set up.
  
  The best size is as big as possible.

  I think I’ve decided on building an NIC cage. 3 grids long, 2 grids wide, and 3 grids high. I’ll put two shelves in. A small 1×2 grid shelf at 14″ high and then a 2×2 grid shelf at 28″ high.
  
  The grids are 14″x14″ so the bottom level would be 42″ x 28″. Then the two shelves added onto that, 14″x28″ and 28″x28″. Is this big enough for two bunnies?
  
  Also another question if you guys don’t mind . What should I use as the floor of the cage? What have you guys used that seems to work well? Thanks.
  
  PS. Thank you for the advice on neutered pairs, Skysblue. The rabbit rescue near me only adopts out neutered rabbits, so this shouldn’t be a problem.

  I bought an 3×6 outdoor mat and flipped it so the flat, rubber side is up and then set my cage on it. It is easy to keep clean and since it’s flat, he cannot chew it.
