This post is for anyone out there who has had to make the same decision I have: I’m re-homing my rabbit.
Why: I am leaving for college in the fall, I am going out of state, about an 8 hour drive, and (unsurprisingly) the dorm doesn’t allow pets. There is no one here to take care of my baby, and it’s unfair to saddle my mom with the responsibility, as she was reluctant to even let me have a rabbit and has patiently put up with them for years.
I wrote up a careful ad and put it up on several pet-rehoming websites and I plan to put up fliers in a few local vet’s offices tomorrow.
A few VERY important points: ASK FOR A RE-HOMING FEE!! This will dissuade snake/dog owners from taking advantage.
INTERVIEW! Do not give your bunny to anyone who offers. Schedule a face-to-face interview and don’t be afraid to ask the tough questions. If you feel comfortable doing so, a visit to your bunny’s potential new home can also be done, however be safe and DON’T go alone!
I can post a flyer if anyone wants to see, but I’m not sure if I’m allowed to…(admins?)
If this post is coming across cold or harsh, I apologize. I’m hoping to channel my sadness into something constructive, and truthfully it hasn’t hit me yet that he won’t here when I come home for Christmas.
