Last time I was on this forum a couple of years ago I was living with my mum and my fiance. Fiance and I had a couple of rescue rabbits which my mum was happy for us to care for, but she didn’t want them inside and it wasn’t overly practical either. However, due to the recent rain we have had I convinced mum to let the rabbits stay inside for a few days while the weather was really bad. Now she has seen how happy they are inside with more room to move and no horrible weather, she has agreed that if I reorganise my study they can live in there.

I’m really excited so I just thought I would share! They are currently living in the bathroom with some nice soft bedding, a litter tray in one corner (it’s been less than 48 hours of litter training and they are already pretty much perfect at it). Today I will be completely reorganising the study so that I can section of part of it for them (I have a large playpen that I can use parts of for this) and hopefully they can move in by this evening. I’m doing some research this morning on how I want to set it up and what I want to include in there for them.

I’m not sure if they will ever fully be able to roam the house because while the dog means well and just wants to play with them, she is very big and can get rough playing, and I don’t want them to get hurt. But we will see how we go. The dog has always been very good with them through a barrier such as the playpen. But at least inside the study they will have a lot more room to move, and they can always be given some temporary time outside the study when the dog is outside.

It’s a good start though! If anyone has any tips, suggestions, or just words of encouragement, feel free to share!

I’m hoping to provide them with a collection of toys and activities I can rotate for them so they always have something different to do. Ogg loves rearranging things and playing with the toilet roll (hitting Weatherwax with it is probably the best thing ever). Ogg also loves explorig and apparently getting under my feet whenever she can. Weatherwax also loves playing with the toilet roll, but she prefers to throw it and run after it. She also loves to eat – she is way more food focused than Ogg.

I wanted to share some photos with you all, but I can’t find any even though I know I took some a while ago. I can’t get updated photos because my phone is broken.

Sorry for the long wall of text, I am a bit excited and wanted to share!

              Yay! This is so great!

I don’t know if you’ve bunny proofed all electric cords, or that should be your first step, to cover all cords with cable covers, IKEA has a type called Rabalder but there are many other types available.

Bunnies often like tunnels. There are cat tunnels or you can use cardboard casting tubes.

Yay for indoor bunnies !!! (They can still go out to nibble on grass in an enclosed run if you wish of course)
Lucky them anyway – yes please we LOVE photos !!

Thanks everyone! I decided that rather than try to bunny proof any cords, I set their main enclosed area of the study where there are no powerpoints or cords or anything that needs bunny proofing. As they get confident and litter trained I will worry about that so I can let them roam more of the house.

A tunnel toy is a good idea. They have one I made them, but it is very open compared to what it could be, so I will look into another. Weatherwax has developed a new love for chewing things, so tomorrow I am going to provide them with some bunny safe wood to chew on. I bought them a ball today, but so far the toilet rolls are still the most popular throw toy. I think because they can pick them up and hit each other with them!

They have settled in really nicely and are still doing a pretty good job using the littler tray. Very proud of them!

So funny – I think you’ve got one of the shortest bunny names and one of the longest bunny names !!

Haha, my fiance named them when he rescued them before we even started dating. Their full names are Granny Weatherwax and Nanny Ogg – I believe they are witches from Terry Pratchett stories.

Update: They spent their first night in their enclosure in the study last night. Used their litter tray for everything except one wee, but I figured that might happen and had put a pet training pad under/around the litter tray, and it was done on that. I’m still hearing those toilet rolls being thrown around a lot. I have a feeling that no matter what nice toys they get, the toilet rolls will always be the favourite!

There is still lots I want to do to their enclosure, such as put some more blankets in, give them more toys, and give them some more toys. My mum initially wanted them back outside in summer, but I convinced her to give them a chance, and seeing as Ogg has come around to loving cuddles, I think she will give in and let them live inside. Although they definitely will get to play in their playpen outside when the weather is nice because they do love that.
