Oh no… I did enjoy it. I just don’t think I’d watch it again and again like I do Finding Nemo.

PSA: If there are any Jane Austen fans out there, Lady Susan has been adapted very well under the title Love & Friendship, with Kate Beckinsale and Stephen Fry, among others. I highly recommend it.

Vienna – Wanted to comment on your kitty, but I didn’t think I should reply in the old chat thread. Anyway, I don’t want to scare you but I don’t have experience with this. My kitty had sudden hair loss on his belly. This was shortly before his tumor (cancer) appeared.

I love Jane Austen. I haven’t read a great deal of her works, but quite stereotypically my favourite would have to be Pride and Prejudice. Probably followed by Emma. I didn’t particularly enjoy any of the adaptations of Emma, but I do love the 1995 BBC Pride and Pejudice. Haven’t read Lady Susan I’m afraid. I should make a point of reading those I haven’t.

Just got back from voting in the Federal election, what fun. I get the feeling it’s going to be an interesting one.

Guys you won’t believe it! I flicked on the porch light and there was the skunk…AND 4 BABIES! The were the CUTEST little balls of poof! But now that I know she has babies, I can’t trap her. But still, so cute. My phone was left in the car (and my mom has the car rn) so I couldn’t snap a pic. But they were sooo cute!

I bought Ajax a couple of new toys, and some of them have (I believe) sisal rope holding them together. Not very much, and very hard to see, just a little bit knotted at the end to keep some beads on.

10 minutes into getting it, Ajax finds that little bit of sisal and SNIP nips it right off. So now I have a New And Broken Toy on my hands. Ha! What a little stinker.

Breaking toys is half the fun, doncha know?

You know you’re a crazy bunny person when you collect dandelion leaves, even though you don’t currently have a bunny. Lol. I’ve got one dandelion plant out by the back door that I’ve been harvesting seeds from when it flowers etc. Today I discovered a second dandelion in the lawn so I decided to take about a third of the leaves from each plant. They’ve been washed and are now drying on a rack by the heater Once they’re dry, they’ll stay good for plenty of time until I can next get a bunny

I’ve also noticed that there’s a good stock of plantain just on the corner down the street so I may have to snag some of that too. I love foraging for bunnies (and birds!)

I have some sisal that I use to make my birds toys, so I might just do that!

Good idea, harvesting the seeds! If I may ask, how do you dry (and then store) leaves and such? I have some wild raspberries growing in the forest around my home but I could never possibly use that much of it before it went bad!

Currently I’m just drying my leaves on a cake rack (sometimes on a paper towel) in front of the heater (because it’s winter here). Our heater puts out very dry air so it’s good for drying things. You can also dry outside, or in the oven. In the oven choose the lowest temperature setting and check them often. No sure how long it would take, maybe a half hour or more with leaves. Once you’re sure they’re completely dry, just store in an air tight container.

Thank you very much!! That’s super helpful; I knew you couldn’t really freeze greens, but I wasn’t sure how to go about preserving them. For whatever reason, drying just never came to mind.

I dry stuff by spreading out in cardboard boxes in the garage, it does take a week or 2, depending on what leaves, but I think they will be very welcome, come winter!

Lol at the dandelion harvesting. I “save” the weeds, digging them up from the yard and replanting in the flower bed. So I can mow and know Im not completely demolishing the free bunny (and human!) food.

Azerane, that is so sweet of you! The bunny you get will be a very lucky bunny!

I dry leaves and grass on two mushroom-and-fruit dryers. They’re small but very effective. I pruned a giant ruse bush the other day and all the leaves went on they dryers, yesterday I pruned a hawthorn shrub and dittoed the leaves. Great for when winter strikes!

Ajax, rasbberry leaves generally dry well if you spread them out indoors on newspaper. Turn them once a day (or rather stir). don’t pack them up until they’re perfectly dry or they’ll go bad. GinaJenny here dries leaves in a halogen oven, but you can use a “normal” oven, only it takes much longer.

Moxie, I just saw: Baby skunks!!! They must be so precious!

We saw a baby mink yesterday. It was so cute and fluffy. When it saw us it got scared and tried to hide under a rock, only it didn’t have enough sense to get it’s little fluffy butt under the rock. I tried getting a pic of it but a phone camera is absolutely like trying to take pix with a potatoe. It sat peering at us from under the rock and had the cutest pink little nose. It will hopefully develop better hiding-skills as it grows older.

Thanks everyone I too can’t wait until I can have a bunny (obviously, lol). All in good time I suppose. But I’ll be super prepared! Haha.

@ Jerserygirl, I can’t transplant one of the dandelions because it’s in by pavers and I know I wouldn’t be able to get the root structure out. I could probably do the one on the lawn though, great idea

@ Bam, I would like to get a dehydrator, to make my own dried apple etc treats as well though it could be used for dandelion too. Just more money at this point in time now though I’m afraid.

They were precious, but it was a little surprising to flick on the light to see 5 skunks on the porch! The mother brought the babies home and then came back several times.

Without searching online, can anyone tell me what baby skunks are called? No cheating. I don’t know the answer and haven’t searched. So I’m very curious!

Oddly, they are called kits. Young in the weasel family are not all called the same thing for some reason. Some of them are referred to as cubs and others are kits or kittens.

Oh and baby otters are called pups. LOL

Uh. Well. This is the new “decoration” for my wall right above where I have the NIC block that was supposed to stop them chewing it (except they figured out if they stood on their hind legs and stretched, they could still reach)…

There are 3-4 more just like it scattered around the room. And any time I let them out, they go straight to the wall to try to make more. 

I took Jersey’s advice and transplanted the dandelions. Me crazy? Not at all I’ve put them in a pot because the veggie bed is in the worst position (full shade all of winter). Now I can mow the lawn without ruining them! I did find some look-a-likes, they’re very sneaky. Very similar leaf shape except for the very ends, and a very slight different shade of blue-green than the bright green that the dandelions are. If there’s anything left of the other weeds after I’ve mowed, I’ll take some pics for ID of the various things I have

No crazy person here, move along… 

Oh and also, I jokingly told my husband yesterday that today we would be getting a rabbit. He simply said, ok. He actually meant it, “if that’s what you want to do, that’s what we’ll do” he said. It makes it so hard to not just get one right now, but I’m really trying to be good because of money.  I must go over the expenses…

Azerane, what kind of bunny are you wanting to get when you get one?

A cute one! Seriously. I have no idea, really. Whatever rescue bunny(/ies?) takes my fancy at the time. I’m not really a big fan of lops, and I’m a sucker for bunnies with Dutch markings. Preferably something on the medium-large size. My dream bunny is either a Tan or Belgian Hare (the latter of which aren’t available in Australia) but I don’t think I want to go the breeder route at this point since I know a rescue lady that usually has plenty of bunns to go around. My plan is to visit the rescue bunnies and interact with some of them and see which one seems like a good fit. That’s if I don’t just fall for the cutest bunny there, which is probably just as likely. Lol.

And yes, my bunny will definitely have the best care and plenty of dried dandelion to go around, haha. Definitely nesting for bunnies…

Ok. So I finally made it to the grocery store after tutoring for eight hours straight (mostly because Chewie was starting to look sad whenever I ate one of his Simple Rewards) and these two guys got in a fight about something (not sure what) right by the checkout. And I’m expecting someone to pull out a blade or use one of the meat cleavers the store sells, since that seems to happen a lot here when fights break out. Instead, they start going at it like the fight scene in Bridget Jones – you know… “It’s a fight! A REAL fight!” followed by clumsy kicks and lame punches and awkward grappling. ???

Needless to say, that made my day. AND I have food of my own now. (And I got Chewie a bunch of fresh lovage as an apology for eating his treats.)

I’m bit sick today. It just always suprise me and melt my hart how buns feel it. Redford usually comes to my head when I have a migraine and just puts his sweet little nose to my forehead. I massage his ear and we just rest on the bed like that. It actually helps.

Also I’ve noticed there are never ever riots about breakfast being late whenever I’m not feeling good. Also that’s a trait puppy picked uo too. I’m so proud and loving of my pets!

I had an idea. Do you think lining the wall with al-foil would deter them?? Mod podge it to the wall? I was insipred by Ellie’s suggestion in a thread about headphones being chewed. Her bunny doesn’t like chewing in foil… 

We just had a Federal election here and I was eyeing off all the big pieces of cardboard and Coroplast while lining up to vote.  Would be great for bunny proofing and making stuff.  Oh and the cardboard polling booths all connected together…Bunny tunnel, maze!

Perhaps when rabbits were first imported for fancy breeding some Belgians were brought over, but it’s possible that the breed has since died out here. Such a shame if so

Niamian, that’s so sweet, Yohio was like that too when I had a bad migraine last year. He was so sweet, he briefly licked my cheek, then went to lie down at the foot end of the bed and stayed there all day, without making any fuss or trying to get me to play or give him treats. So Tisha the cat has no lumps or bumps (that the vet can find) – yay – and so apart from saying “I’ve never seen anything like that before” gave her an anti-inflammatory (in case she’s overgrooming herself for a reason we can’t see) and also a 4-week ringworm trx, in case it’s that instead….
Any fur should start growing back in 2 months! (cheap haircuts!!)

Yeah, I lost a female from my F-F-M trio last May. I was in the room with them when she suddenly died. The other 2 didn’t even really want to go near her once she was gone. They’d take a look, then hop away. I feel like they have been closer with each other. Purely because there’s not other choice of bunny to hang with but they’ve been fine. Pretty much acting like they were when part of a trio. Hope this helps…

Vienna, I’m so sorry to hear about that. I completely missed the post mentioning her stroke. How scary. At least I’m very glad to hear she has recovered somewhat from it. I hope she continues to recover.

Got the baby his breakfast and now trying to decide where to order MY breakfast from (yay first day of Eid!).

Last night, I had a little mesh petgate delivered for my bedroom doorway because my pintsized guardian sometimes likes to go to bed later than me and wakes me up and I feel bad closing the door in his fuzzy booplesnoot.

So now he’s transported some of his salad to where the box is leaning against the sideboard and is munching in his new tunnel. Aaand I just noticed that he managed to also get my mobile phone off the ottoman and into the tunnel as well during the night. And the screen has obviously been licked “clean”.???

@Hazel, tbh i haven’t really followed the campaign in the US but occasionally see bits and pieces. I know there was supposedly some sort of alleged deception… Can you give me the cliff notes version?  I know I could google but I don’t want to get bogged down in all the info. 

Well, generally there have been several things about her being called deceptive and her problem with people feeling like she’s untrustworthy. But what I was talking about is something different, she had used private email accounts to discuss classified matters when she was Secretary of State. So now the FBI was investigating if she should face charges. I didn’t expect anything to happen really, she is Hillary Clinton after all. But, especially in the last few days before the FBI announced their decision, there were some awkward things that happened, making the investigation look a bit “odd”. I thought they would at least TRY to make it look sort of legit.

Haven’t read the book, since I usually only read fantasy, historical, and the odd chick lit.
I also don’t usually watch sentimental movies, since the genre is just not my cup of tea.
BUT it was the only thing playing when I went out, and despite having seen the trailer and not feeling inspired, I bloody liked it! lol

On a random note, it’s the second movie I’ve seen in two days that featured not one, but TWO of the actors from Game of Thrones (the other one is Pride and Prejudice and Zombies).

Working on getting all the dogs their baths. Snickers, Paris and Tilly have all had their baths. Now it’s Zero’s turn!

A little bit! Snickers (being under 10 pounds and all) is by far the easiest! The bigger dogs aren’t *terrible* but it’s definitely not easy either!

Moxie, I’m glad they’re not terrible, many dogs would be =) How often do you bathe them?

Hazel, I haven’t tried making alcohol. I live a 15 min ferry-ride from Denmark where you can buy alcohol in every grocery store. You can buy alcohol on the ferry itself as soon as it enters Danish water. I drink very little. Like a glass of wine on my mother’s birthday and glühwein before Christmas.

Well, I’m not completely exhausted. The place I work for has a yearly Expo from all the suppliers and companies showcasing their products and where you can learn about new products and try things out etc. Now, they don’t actually hold an Expo in my state, because we have a smaller number of stores, it’s actually cheaper for the company to send 3 charter planes (loaded with 170 odd people each) interstate and back again over the course of the 3 day Expo. It’s quite ridiculous. I was up at 3:40am, we met at 5am for the bus, boarded our flight at about 7:00am, then it was about 9:30 by the time we got into the Expo. We then left at 2:15pm for the return bus to the airport etc etc and I just got home half an hour ago at 6:45pm. So I’ve been out for 14 and 1/2 hours. Needless to say, I’m exhausted. How I wish tomorrow was Saturday

Ooof… there are few things worse than travel time exceeding the time at destination.

Ok. It’s official. I’m getting the humidifier out. I came home a week ago with clear airways and soft skin. Now my skin is already flaky and every time I breathe in, my nose makes weird whistly noises. I have GOT to pick a forever home in a microclimate or something, so I won’t need to use heating/AC too much.

Hmm… put a box of disinfecting wipes by the loo and let him know he’s free to use them in case of misfires?

Bam– During the winter they only get a bath if they have a vet appointment or look especially dirty. It’s just too cold to be wet. During the other seasons, Snickers gets bathed about every 3 weeks. She’s low to the ground and loves to dig, so she gets filthy. The big dogs get bathed about every 6-8 weeks. unless they get into something really dirty. They play outside a lot so they need regular baths. Zero gets brushed regularly, and they’ll occasionally get a wipe down in between baths to keep them fresh.

Moxie have any advice on bathing a dog. I’ll have to master that at some point soon?

I left my darling bunnies for a safe keeping just now at the vet assistant. And just had to show you this. Why I trust them. Pictures are not for a faint harted!

Poor bun was neglected. Living in some backyard with nothing else then what he could find. On tthe snow, rain… no cover. Owner left him at our vet to die and get rid of him. Poor thing had worms under his fur! Not to mention rest. However they didn’t want to give up, or the bun who turned up to be a real fighter and the sweetest little fella I ever saw. Every time I would see him there he would come close for a head rubb.
Gradually they got him back to full speed bunny. And even one of the vets there adopted him.

Just had to share you a happy ending story!

I guess my only tips would be to give them plenty of treats/pats, keep it as quick as possible and then do something with them after that they like so they start associating baths with good things.

Egad, Niamian! I’m glad you said there’s a happy ending because I don’t have FB so I can only see the handful of awful bunny torture pictures. That poor wee soul…

I know I’ve said it before, but there’s a special circle in hell just for people who do this kind of thing to animals.

No can do, my friend. Seeing photos past the first few requires a FB login and I’m not on the book of faces. The first few pics are horrific… coming back from something like that is nothing short of a miracle for a bun.

Yap, they where so proud of him for not giving up. I also can’t see the end photos since this is actually the only “social network” I’m using. But I have seen him in live in he is just too adorable!

Thx. Moxie and Vienna. He looks like someone who loves water for now. I put some bucket thingy in the garden full of water and he was jumping in and out happy.

Finally have my budgeting sorted again. For the second half of May and all of June I didn’t use my planner so things got a little out of hand, especially with the addition of Dory and vet visits etc. But I’ve just finished mapping out all of July and most of August so we should be right on track again for good savings, which is a nice feeling

Also, very exciting news (relating to food) I was in the supermarket today and discovered that Arnotts have brought back one of their original Shapes biscuit flavours after recently making them all “New and Improved”! More like… I miss the flavours I grew up with and loved, why did you change something that wasn’t broken?!?!! I thought it would happen, I’ve heard so many complaints about the change to the flavours. I can’t wait to crack the box open and have some

I know! Cadbury here did it several years ago now and they had so many complaints and such a drop in sales that they changed their recipe back too.

I’m not sure my transplanted dandelions are going to make it They were doing really well, then Thursday night we had a super cold night and ever since then they’ve looked not so great. Really hoping that they’re going to bounce back and we don’t have more nights like that.

Azerane, I think they’ll bounce back, they can handle minus degrees, they are perennials and very sturdy. The greens can wilt but the root survives. If you get cold nights you can cover the pot + plants in bubble wrap. It’s what I do with delicate perennials here for winter (rosemary, fig tree, olive tree). It won’t protect against persistent -10 degrees C, but you won’t get that, will you?

If we did, I would wilt and die too But no, definitely not anything like that. I’m glad to hear they tolerate cold quite well though. Keeping in mind these are heat-hardened Australian dandelions, lol. Will just have to wait and see

Hi guys! OMG, I feel like I missed so much over the last few days. We lost Cash on Monday (July 4). I will have to post in the Rainbow Bridge section soon. I just haven’t been feeling up for it. I just wanted to let everyone know that I’m still here.

I am so exhausted. I went to sleep at 2 am this morning, had to get up at 5:30 and get ready to babysit. The lady I was working for picked me up a little before 7 AM , so I babysat from 7 to 7 (12 hours!) and ended up having to attend a stranger’s wedding (I was babysitting at a wedding towards the after noon/evening). I didn’t get back until 7:30. I am beyond tired! And I have another early (and EXTREMELY busy day tomorrow) and I leave for a week long camp on Monday.

Since my day was so hectic I was terrible at my diet today. At the wedding I ate a salad, a roll and a cupcake. And some chips when I got home. Uhg I feel so terrible, but I keep trying to tell myself everybody needs a cheat day once in a while. I’ve lost over 10 pounds and my doctor said my BMI was perfectly fine, and I was not overweight. Surprisingly I am nearly 5’5” (5’4” and 3/4”), I never would of guessed I was that “tall”.

I may or may not have just left a mean comment on someone’s youtube video, whoops.  They had it coming though, the information they were giving about how to care for a rabbit, and then their response in comments about how it was nonsense to get your rabbit desexed and there’s no need to spend money on them in that way. Oh man, I just couldn’t stop myself, and I’m not normally like that I feel like a criminal, lol.

Sometimes it’s hard to resist in the face of crass f@#%wittery… as if buns don’t already need all the help they can get in our society, along comes an “expert” spouting rubbish and misinformation for the masses.

Don’t worry too much about it. It was a month before I packed up all of Bandit’s bowls and toys etc from his condo, I just couldn’t bear to put everything away, like somehow if I didn’t he wasn’t actually gone. Take as long as you need before sorting things out.

LBJ, I kept most of my bridge dog’s things and Effi uses quite a few of them. Like her rain-coat and her food-bowls. I packed it away, but didn’t throw it away. The sight of the leash in the hallway and the food bowls in the kitchen was too much.

I think about Nala often. The memories are good now. Although sometimes there are still tears.

Vienna – That’s what I thought, but some were saying it differently. LOL Oh well, it’s over now. Didn’t go to well………

Azerane, Vienna, Bam – Oh I know. It’s hard looking at them and, yet, it’s like she’s still here. It’s going to be awhile before we get her ashes back. I think we’ll wait at least until then.

It may have taken me years to finally get there, but I have managed to clear out and tidy up the whole house! A whole car full of stuff has been collected by the rescue Podge came from, to be sold by them to raise funds, and over £100 worth of video games and DVDs have been posted to Music Magpie to get some extra uni funds for the boys.

Now I just need 2-3 weeks of bin collections to get rid of all the rubbish and job done

Very odd, our bun has started his molting period in july. Last year this happened in september…
We’ve had an unusually cold june with lots of rain and autumn storms. Could this have upset his internal calendar?

I don’t know Ellie, but just noticed last week that my Yohio has gone into a molt. It’s been cold here as well (Sweden). Indoor bunnies can molt at any time more or less, some buns even molt continuously.

Hmm, I hope the rest of the summer will be cool as well if he’s turning into his winter coat already. I can’t have AC or other strong air currents in my house, so I’ll need to think of another way to keep him cool if the weather turns.

Chew went to the spa just after having finished a massive molt, and he’s now blowing out little tufts and flyaways again. 😯 He’s got no excuse whatsoever… no temp changes at all! I even found a whisker in my hair this morning, but I suspect that was from a midnight grooming accident (he slept with me last night, due to my not having to be up too early this morning).

At least we just had new windows (thermopanes) put in his potty room, so it’s one less source of weird draughts to float his fur into my contact lenses. lol Now, if I can scrounge up just a bit more money, I can have the living room glass doors replaced too, and our flat will officially be much quieter and less dusty.

He helped me “fold” the laundry again just now by pressing it – with his furry tummy, while still in the laundry basket.

Except Jenny! When I tried frozen water bottles a couple of weeks back, Jenny went into full out attack mode, the bottles got badly beaten up, and send flying from one side of the run to the other several times over. I had to remove both bottles to save Jenny from getting even hotter than she was before the bottles were tried!

That really does sound like Jenny! She wouldn’t let just anybottle invade her territory!

Given my eldest saw Jenny loose some time before before we first saw Gina, Gina’s gotcha day was 9th June, and Jenny’s gotcha day isn’t until 31st July, its no wonder she’s still a wild child. She had to be to survive at least two months on her own. And she doesn’t like strange bottles invading her space! 

I think the poor bottles were glad to be sent for recycling 

During his first few months with me, Chewie pilfered every stray empty water bottle he could get his paws on, and crammed it under the couch. When I switched sofas in November, my friend and I were astounded to find at least a dozen bottles under there.

You do know one of those water bottles was magic, and the others were decoys right?

My friend has just arrived for a week long visit, and Podge eventually allowed a very gentle head rub. Gina wasn’t happy, and swiped Podge away from my friend’s hand, showing she and Jenny still aren’t so very different, as Jenny does this to Pippi quite often if anyone, including me, tries to give Pippi head rubs!

LOL I came to Kuwait by myself with two large suitcases, one carry-on, and three Rubbermaid cargo bins – all full. It was literally all I had in the world.

Now, eight years later, I’m still in the same large two-br flat, with the addition of Chewie.

I’ve chucked the stuff the flat came with, and made it very much my own – but despite that, I realized that while I have stuff, I have less stuff than most people. I generally don’t buy things unless they’ll be used regularly and are aesthetically pleasing to me.

At the same time, despite loving my home, I also know that when it’s time to move, I’ll leave pretty much everything behind for the next tennant. I put too much work and money into having new windows put in, and putting in new fixtures and cupboards and floating shelves etc myself, to tear it all down and lug it overseas. I’d rather leave it behind intact and beautiful than see my work of nearly a decade ripped to pieces and stuffed in a shipping container.

After the clear out we’ve just had, the boys will find packing for uni simple. Two smallish cases each will easily hold everything, apart from my youngest’s bike, which he says he is taking with him too.

This is the first time I haven’t been discouraged by the growing piles of stuff the boys hadn’t used in ages, but wanted to keep ‘just in case’, which is probably the only reason I actually finished the job!

I’m in complete and utter awe, GJ. I need to do the same here.

Just heard yesterday about an outbreak of RVHD in a nearby town. Dead rabbits found looking like they’d their eyes poked out, in a fenced-in area belonging to a company that my brother does work for. It’s a big food company so they have a pest control guy, he said it looked like RVHD.

OMG, just saw Bam eat a raspberry. The eternal question arose: How is it even possible to be so cute???

Vienna, no not myxo, vermin guy said rabbit hepatitis (it’s informally called that here). Bleeding from the eyes is consistent with RVHD (it’s kind of like ebola for rabbits). Really scary. The ONLY good thing about it is that it kills quickly.

Horrible indeed, those poor buns. Btw, aren’t RHVD vaccinations in the yearly vaccinations that our buns are supposed to get? I just checked Breintje’s medical passport and it says that he got the Nobivac(R) shot: Myxo-RHD. This was done at our vet here in the Netherlands.

If people want to protect their buns against it, here’s some more info:

“There are several vaccines available against VHD in the UK: Cylap, made by Fort Dodge Animal Health; Lapinject made by CEVA Animal Health; and Anivac, made by Animalcare Ltd. All last for 12 months and contain inactivated strains of VHD. A live combination vaccine, Nobivac Myxo-RHD, made by MSD Animal Health, has recently become available. Bam – Some days, I’m so glad Chewie can’t read (or hasn’t owned up to it yet… for all I know, he’s on my iPad and Kindle when I’m not home). Bunny ebola, for some reason, sounds way more awful than human ebola. I remember a couple of years ago, when I spent the summer in Malawi on a self-imposed writing retreat, and there were creepily cheerful ebola warning signs at the airport – I giggled. Now, after reading about the outbreak in your neck of the woods, I got all teary eyed. Bunnies should enjoy bum snacks, not bleed from the eyeballs (sorry… I’m watching my darling munch on some self-produced raspberries – he had actual raspberries, yes, plural, two, this morning). And you’re right: it’s adorable how they can make a raspberry last for several bunny bites, and how kissably pink their stained lips are afterwards.

Fear not, Ellie. Chewie has turned the stealing of mommy’s victuals into a fine art. My breakfast is usually two slices of Wasa sourdough with cucumber, a bit of feta, and a boiled egg, followed by some watermelon. And I never get to eat it without a rabbit trying to climb me like a tree to get to it. LOL It seems rather unfair, as I rarely pilfer his food… and never his poops.

Oh no… Breintje was still very active when we left to visit a friend tonight. Happily chewing on his carrot leaves. But when we came back just an hour later he was laying outstretched in his cage, allowing us to pet him on the sides. He only does this when he’s starting to get sick.

We don’t have any baby tummy drops in the house at the moment, but I just massaged his belly instead. Hope that helps… Poor bun

Try to make him hop around a little, that’s the best thing for gas. They can lie stretched out with their butt slightly elevated if they have gas.
Keep him warm, you can do that by sitting him in your lap, perhaps put a light fleece blankie on him.

Thesis hell, some of my friends are suffering from it too. If it helps: meet up with your professor and ask if you can take a break. If you’re so exhausted that you’re becoming physically ill they can’t expect you to get any work done. It’s not a shame to get some counseling or other help while writing your thesis. It’s extremly strenuous.

Compare writing a thesis to running a mental marathon, this is the pinnacle of mental exercise. When performing these mentally straining tasks you can only be productive for a few hours a day. After that, rest is absolutely neccessary to recharge for the next day. It’s better to work 4 hours a day at maximum productivity, than 10 hours of mucking around and being dead tired the day after. It sounds like you’ve had to push yourself like this for way too long.

What helps my friends is taking a small but active vacation: a weekend city-trip, a couple of days at a LARP. Basically anything which is relaxing but active, so your mind doesn’t constantly come back to thesis-hell stress. I hope that this can help you, in the meantime: lots of hugs.

How do you pronounce his name, I’m asying it like Benji but with an R and a T – like Brent-G – which is prob completely wrong.

Whew, crisis averted! I zippered down my vest and carried him around in it for a while to warm up. He loves to lay on my chest that way, supported by my arm and enclosed in the vest. Then I gave him a very gentle belly massage. In the beginning he was disgruntled that I had dared to touch his belly, the prude… After the belly massage he was grumpy but a bit more active.

I stayed up late with him and checked him all the time. When I got down on the floor to check him I accidentally bumped into the TV-stand, and his bag of treats is on there. The bag rustled, and suddenly a happy and curious bun shot out from his box under the coffee table. He did two sets of poops in his litter box afterwards

After that he started nibbling on his carrot leaves, and then he decided that it was time to reward me for his massages. Never seen a bun so cuddly in my lifetime! When he was done I rolled into bed at 1:30 AM, my boyfriend woke up a bit and I said: “He pooped.”. My BF smiled and noded off again. Bunny people and our obsession with poops..

For all the people who wonder how to pronouce Breintjes name, welcome to the wonderful world of Dutch pronounciation. We have something called diphthongs in our language, and use a lot of those actually. Diphthongs are combinations of gliding vowels, combining into new vowels which are very difficult on the untrained speaker. I used to teach German students how to speak Dutch, and even though we’re only 10 kilometers from Germany here the languages are so different. They just couldn’t get the pronunciation right, so in the end told them to do their best seal-impression to learn how to pronounce the diphthongs. Imagine a whole classroom going “Oui, eu, ui, oi!”. Hilarious 

In an English accent you’d pronounce it as Brine-tjuh, with a u as in “the” or “but”. For Dutch pronunciation, follow this link to Google translate and click the listen-icon to listen to the lovely robotic lady: http://translate.google.nl/#nl/en/breintje It doesn’t sound very natural to the Dutch, but it’s a good approximation.

So… I’m at home today. The network at work crashed, so I got a call while out running errands this morning, telling me to take the day off. Yippee skippy!

My goodness, just saw on the national news, they are issuing a warning about RVHD2. My rabbits are so not getting any more outside time until there’s a vaccine. Unfortunately, caliciviruses are prone to mutating.

Vienna – I saw her on Canadian TV once. I wonder if subconsciously that’s what I do, since I only tend to own things I use often and love.

Bam – That’s so scary… poor bunbuns… I hope there’s a safe and effective vaccine developed soon.

LOL Good grief! I’d feel like I were suffocating. I like my space airy.

Q8: Oh dear, you’d be so out of place in my home. It’s been the most horrible mess for nearly a year now. And it’s not even all mine.

I make costumes for a LARP club as a hobby, and I used to have all the crafting materials stored at our clubhouse. We share the clubhouse with 2 other clubs: a board game club and a library club. The board game club has made a certain guy an honorary member. He did some pretty good things for the club, and therefore got lifelong access to the clubhouse during the opening hours for the board game club. This was back in the 80’ies, when he was still relatively sane.

Nowadays he hangs around the clubhouse smoking pot outside, and continually regails everyone with his idiotic conspiracy theories. He’s also very fond of his own discussion style (basically it ends up with him shouting). He treats the clubhouse as his territory, and as soon as you open the door he pops up from out of nowhere. I was so sick and tired of this guy that I asked the board game club to restrict his access to only their hours, as was originally the plan. But they don’t dare to confront him, because they’re too afraid of him…

Eventually it ended with my 55 m2 apartment being used as the second clubhouse for the LARP. Whenever they need costumes they’re all made here, which means that all rooms are piled high with boxes with fabrics, rolls of cloth and sewing accessories.

You could always have your bun watch Monty Python and the Holy Grail a few times, and then toss him at this guy’s throat. Problem solved.

Seriously, though… what a tosser.

And on that note, it’s time to take off my socks, curl up in bed with a rabbit and a good (nibbled on) book for a bit, and then snooze. Night night friends all over the world.

We’re all just secretly hoping that he messes up again. He’s still on probation by the university campus security guard. He feeds the stray cats on the campus and treats them as his property. They breed quickly and the problem seemed to get out of hand. So the university asked the Dutch RSPCA to capture and neuter the cats. He was agressive to the officers and literally threatened to castrate their family members as well. He received a restraining order for the campus which lasted for a blessed year. Upon his next offence against campus personnel or other authorities he’s banned for life. Fingers crossed!

I confess, I did look up LARP – medieval costumes? – well that is going to take up space !! lol I think ther’s a difference between organised chaos and a load of junk kept since years gone by, and hidden in drawers, cupboards ‘just in case’ which should not be in the house….

Yes, LARP is a form of improvisation theater in which you take the role of a character you designed by yourself. Then you act out that character for the duration of the event (mostly 2-3 days). People bring their own props and costumes, sleep in setting-appropriate tents or shelters, and sometimes cook in setting-appropriate ways. 

Our LARP club has created two worlds for people to play in. The first one is a medieval fantasy setting where magic is used but should only be used secretively. Combat is done with special LARP weapons which are relatively safe. This fantasy LARP has a lot of role-playing and encounters with the supernatural. The other setting is a sci-fi setting where an interplanetary fleet does missions and has encounters. This last setting is quite plot-heavy and has a lot of politics and intrigue.

These LARPS are all about setting and the feeling of immersion in another world. We do our best to make everything look appropriate, though there is a large degree of freedom. For instance: in the fantasy LARP you can meet people dressed as Romans, Vikings, medieval peasants or even someone from the baroque time. As long as it has an appropriate look it’s all fun and games.

We rent log cabins and a piece of forest from the local scouts, and we convert that to a medieval village complete with tavern. I make the costumes for the non-player characters (NPC’s). They are brought into the game by the game masters to give the players something to interact with. For instance: a village merchant or a band of roaming monks. I once made costumes for an entire army of Alice In Wonderland- style playing card soldiers ^_^

Sorry to hear that. I still have some tips for this situation:

If possible, work from home. Find your max productivity hours and do your writing in those hours. In between those hours, do active things which will take your mind off it. It can be household activities, exercise, calling friends. Mentally stimulating/recharging activities also help: if it works for you, meditate. And if you are religious or spiritual, get your strength there. Do some good for the people around you, and the positivity will also help you through your day

For example: I’m a nightowl because I work best without any sounds from the neighbours. Night calms me down, and I get more creative and productive without the distractions. When I graduated I worked from home and shifted my sleep schedule. I worked only in my peak hours: 11:00-13:00, 16:00-18:00 and 23:00-02:00. In between I did my normal household tasks and exercised on my stationary bike while watching a good episode of my favourite series. At that time I volunteered for the Red Cross, which was a nice distraction as well.

This way still got me 7 solid hours of work, which were more productive than hanging around the office.

Funny that you say that, because our LARPS are called 7Realms and Sevcol ^_^ It’s not exactly next-door, but if you’re ever in the area of the Netherlands you’re welcome to join us. We can arrange sleeping places for people as well. The fantasy LARP has 3 events per year (early May, late September/early October, and a one-day event in December). The sci-fi LARP also has 3 events per year, mostly spread out through the year, weaving in between the dates of the fantasy LARP. The sci-fi LARP uses souped-up NERF guns to simulate combat

Actually, fantasy LARP rules are different in each country. In the USA people are very careful to avoid lawsuits. Most LARPS there will only allow soft foam weapons. These don’t only look bad, but are extremely floppy. In Germany people are allowed to fight with actual blunted steel weapons, and the head is an acceptable target In the Netherlands we take the middle-road: our LARP weapons are made with a strong fiberglass core, surrounded by latex foam. These still leave a pretty bruise if you’re hit hard, but at least you’ll feel the impact and can act out an epic death-scene.

The rules in the Netherlands are as such: head, groin and ladies’ breasts are not a valid target. Stabbing with weapons is not allowed (the core may come out and seriously hurt someone). When fighting, hold your swing at the last moment to you only hit lightly. And avoid people who have a so-called dipper-lint. This is a red/white warning lint for people who have a disability or medical problem. They are encouraged to play non-combat roles such as diplomats, traders or tribal wise women. These people are not to be hit, dragged, kidnapped, skinned alive, or thrown into a cook pot by a band of orcs. People with these lints are also encouraged to stay away from danger, for instance: don’t go into the haunted forest, don’t get smart around a troll, and don’t pinch the duke’s bottom.

I know, rather dull, but we’re happy that people with disablities can also join us. We had 3 people with disabilities at our event in May, and they had a great time role-playing. During these LARPS I’m mostly found in the kitchen cooking and baking, and I only occasionally mingle with the players with my dipper-lint clearly visible.

I’m glad you are fine. I know you’re in the opposite end of France, but still.

Vienna: Selfish or not, I’m glad you’re fine too. Selfishly, I’d hate to lose my newfound banter buddy – who would poke fun at me if anything were to happen to you?

Ellie: In a couple of years, I hope to relocate to France. Once settled, Chewie and I are SO checking out the fantasy ones. They sound like heaps of fun.

Speaking of the little stinker, he just gave me such a scare. He dissolved into a bunny puddle under the dining room table, and when I went closer to him to see if he’s ok, he didn’t even twitch a whisker (which he always does if he hears me walking toward him). My heart stopped and I gently pinched his bum, and only then – to his mom’s immense relief – did he move his head to look at me reproachfully (for disturbing him, I imagine).

Haha, yes she can eat them. I’ve actually been drying some for when I get a rabbit again lol. I have also been picking a few and cutting them up into the chop mixes I make for Dory though. I’ve tried whole leaf greens with her and she’s not really a big fan, I have to chop things up small.

Vienna I’m very glad to hear you are safe. I know there’s many people who weren’t so lucky, such a horrific thing to happen. The world seems to be getting more awful with every passing day.

Vienna, I was about to reply. It is true, if anthing would happen to any of us, we’d just be gone from the Internet and nobody online would know why or how. You don’t seem the least bit gloomy to me =) Very un-gloomy, actually.

I would hope that perhaps if I were to die suddenly, that my husband knowing the forums I frequent may come online and post about it, just to let you know. Because I do have some very good friends from forums, some of which I’ve met over the years.

Interesting, the first time I heard of LARP was from another member that used to be active on here. He made weapons and face masks and possibly costumes, I think.

Whewph, it seems like ages since I’ve had time to come around here! I hope everyone and their bunnies are doing well. Okay now a little rant. There’s somebody selling meat rabbits on craigslist. So the person has a mother rabbit who just gave birth to 13 (or they combined 2 litters and didn’t say) babies. Their eyes aren’t even opened. The post says the babies have to go with the mother, but that the babies could be separated at 3 weeks old. UHG. Should I flag the add? It makes me so upset to see stuff like that. That’s why I can’t go on craigslist!

The craiglist ad is a worry. I think I would send a message rather then flag. If the ad gets pulled they’ll just find somewhere else to advertise. Maybe just pass on some info. You could even phrase it that if they let the mother and kits go to someone, make certain that person knows it’s best for the kits to stay with her up until 8 weeks. It might be worth finding out if there is a law on this in your area.
I think you can make a difference by communicating in a polite way.

Is anyone watching “Stranger Things” on Netflix? It just came out on Friday and we finished it last night. It’s awesome! I so hope they get a second season!

Well, I just spent $310…. Not a great feeling Just confirmed my purchase of a cage for Dory. Cage was $270 and shipping was $40, which is really good considering it comes in two boxes which together weigh 41kg! Mostly I’m excited about decking it out with perches and setting up the layout. It’s probably a bit hopeful to think it will arrive before this weekend, which is a pain because the worst day to get it would be a Monday because I probably wouldn’t have time to do everything until the following weekend I’m excited about it, but depressed about having spent the money, lol. Such is life I suppose.

Haha, yeah. It will get much more exciting once it arrives It is quite large, but she’s a pretty big bird so needs the space. My mega branch will not fit, no The leaves need to be pruned off anyway because they’re dead now, but I’ll keep the branch for use in the cage.

I had a good time at camp. One of the girls I met (last year and this year) was my assigned bunk buddy again and we hung out together mostly the whole week. I talked to her on the phone yesterday since our little sisters are friends too and were talking on the phone and we’ve been keeping in contact via instagram, sending each other pics of our animals and stuff. We plan on getting together with another girl and going to a tiny water park in the town she lives in (about an hour and a half away) within the next month or two. It’ll be fun, and we both have a lot in common. I think we could become good friends.

Vienna, thank you on behalf of Stensson! He has a house in the small village where my mum lives, so we actually see him irl sometimes =)

Vienna: a friend of mine had a very old cat who had a stroke, and the cat was frequently dizzy and had balance problems. This can make the cat feel queasy and destroy its appetite. They fed her paté softened with water through a syringe.

Yay, wooooo, yippie!!! We had a major breakthrough today! A friend seems to be suffering from a major mental crisis, he locked himself in his house for two months and refused all contact with friends. The neigbours were complaining about the mess building up. Two weeks ago I tried to check up on him at work, only to find an empty desk. I contacted an ex-colleague of his, and she told me he hadn’t shown up at work as well. He even missed the appointment with the company doctor… The police refuses to send help, because they think the situation isn’t dire enough….yet? We then decided to intervene ourselves.

After many unanswered calls and texts we finally “caught” him at home 1,5 weeks ago. He tried to hide from us on a previous visit earlier that day, but this time we saw him sitting at his desk. He wouldn’t let us in, and was visibly shaken. We told him that we were worried and wanted to help, but he hastily closed the balcony door. To our surprise, the ex-colleague received a text last week that he wanted to meet us in town today for a few drinks. We had a great conversation and he’s finally going to accept help. He said that our visit snapped him out of his lethargy. At least he forgives us for the intrusion. Well, first steps have been set, and we’ll get him to see a psychiatrist ASAP. Such a relief to finally get through to him

The other condition I came across, I dismissed as it was more to do with lesions. Now that you say she has mouth ulcers, I wonder..  It’s called eosinophilic granuloma (say that fast 3 times!). Most commonly, the lesions appear in mouth and back of legs. But it doesn’t sound as if that’s what’s happening around the legs. Wonder what the black spots are?? Could that be some new fur growing in? Did she have some fur loss around her mouth also?

Most such lesions emerge when certain immune system cells (eosinophils) mistakenly release inflammatory chemicals to counter the invasion of parasites when, indeed, no such invasion has occurred. In any case, the chemicals will produce the clinical signs of allergy, such as itching, swelling, and inflammation. Rather than parasitic invasion, Dr. Miller points out, the causes of these lesions are most frequently

I knew it would happen. I hadn’t heard from anyone about Dory possibly being their missing bird in almost two months, then I paid for a cage 3 days ago and today I get a message from someone about her, lol. Fortunately, it doesn’t appear to be his missing bird (unfortunate for him though).

I would be sad, but I don’t think I would be really disappointed. To be honest I’ve struggled quite a bit with the thought of keeping her at times but in the end I know I will love having her, it’s just been a bit of a challenge for me. At this stage, if it was truly the right owner I would definitely give her back, because I know how upset I would be if it was my pet that had been missing. But if it had been two years or something, I think I would have the right to refuse.

And I didn’t just go totally crazy and have a spending spree online for bunny things I was on the Guinea Pigs Australia shop and noticed that all of their Burgess Excel products are super discounted (by about a third) so I maybe just bought one of everything to try it out, haha. I have always wanted to try their hay/herb mixes but they’re so expensive. Now, I got a bag of pellets, two boxes of their fruit/veggie snacks and 3 different varieties of herb hays to try out for $42.98 when it would normally be $152-ish!!! I’m a little excited about getting a new bunny

I’m very sorry to hear about Tish, and although it may not be a good diagnosis, at least you have one and you can work on treating it rather than just treating symptoms.

I wonder if chicken in a blender would turn fine enough to be syringed. I think you can get meat powders though, who knows what’s in them. But you could also put the pate in a blender, or strain it through a sieve to remove chunks. Do they make meat baby foods?
