Monday around 6 or 7 my Holland Lop Goliath started falling over when trying to groom herself and when trying to walk. As soon as I saw that I rushed her to the emergency vets office. I thought maybe it was a blockage from the foam mat she had gotten into but I’m pretty sure she just tore it up and hadn’t eaten it since I could see all the pieces. And after talking to the vet who said it was a possibility but probably unlikely since she had pooped in the back, wasn’t in as much pain as she’d suspect with a rabbit that had a blockage, and had a normal temp. we ended up with a diagnoses of Gi Stasis.
The vet gave her Buprenex .3mg/mL, Famotidine and some SQ fluids and put her in an oxygen cage to her with her elevated Heart rate and breathing. By the end of the my poor baby looked exhausted but better than what I had seen earlier that day. We left around 10:30 that night with Meloxidyl 1.5mg/mL, Recovery (Basically like Critical Care), a bag of SQ fluids, the infants gas medicine I already had at home, and a vet bill of nearly $300.
At first, she was very groggy and didn’t have much fight when we had to pick her up (something she hates) for her IV, she didn’t care for any food I’d try to give her or her hay, and she didn’t fight me to take the Recovery food. Her poops were still very small and rare. However last night she perked up eating some of her hay, most of her pellets and some veggies along with her liquid food diet since I was told not to stop until she was 100% back to normal. She even put up a fight to be picked up to get her for the SQ fluids along with her doing the same this morning.
I’ve also noticed that she’s been pooping quite a good amount compared to almost nothing before (and good sized too) However she’s gotten some diarrhea today and I wasn’t expecting it since the doctor said her poops should just be normal? Is this because she just starting to go again and get better or because her tummy wasn’t used to the Recovery food that she has to eat? Or is she starting to go downhill?
I’m sorry this was so long I’m just extremely worried about her and a bit of an over protective mum haha.
