  I got my two female probably half or part mini rex bunnies, not sure what the other part(s) is/are, on April 1st, and they’ve been very closely bonded, however recently Nyx, my bigger black rabbit started mounting Willow, and at first she’d just run away, and Nyx would not bother, but yesterday Willow starting mounting Nyx and she doesn’t like that so she’d tried to get away but then they’d end up circling each other, then Nyx would get a bit aggressive. The lady I got them from said they were 12 weeks old when I picked them, and I’ve them for almost 2 months on June 1st.
  
  Is there anything I can do until I can afford to spay them? Because in Oakville, ON. the vet I go to is 650 + tax per pet. I was thinking of separating them at night, but until next week, I have no money for a new cage. Someone said to put one in the bathroom, but my brother works in the morning when I’m still sleeping.
  
  Any advice what to do? They kind of have been avoiding each other since yesterday, but I only have one cage. I just don’t want to have to give them up, or separate them permanently. Thank you for your advice, I’m really stressing out about this, as a new bunny owner.

  Youll have to separate them in their own cages until you can get them spayed. Most vets wont do spays until the female bun is atleast six months old to help avoid complications. If you cant buy a full new cage and they share a big cage, you can buy grids and connectors from C&C cages to build a little wall between them. Youll want to atleast double layer the little wall you make so the squares are smaller, so theyll have a harder time trying to nip through the cage bars. You can also buy a separater on the C&C cage website if it looks like it would fit in your cage

  Even if you spay them, the mounting won’t stop unless they get their hierarchy figured out as in until one bunny is top bunny and the other bunny is the lower bun bun. I read a lot that this is how they distinguish who will be the groomer (and the submissive) and who will be the groom-ee (and the boss) haha
  If they figure out their hierarchy now, they will stop the mounting for a bit…. THEN they MIGHT start mounting each other again after the spay to once again figure out who is the top bunny.
  OR they could be like my bunnies and never do the whole mounting thing. I feel like mine are half and half since I see both of them grooming each other equally….
  
  And DANG your vet spay bill is extremely expensive… I got both mine spayed for $275 each and with tax like a lil over 300 I believe.

  I seperated them for a night, and then they started being nicer to each other, there hasn’t really been any problems. My friend is letting me borrow a cat carrier until I can buy something to separate them, since they’re free roam for the day. I’m not sure if it is big enough.

  Oh well, they both groom each other, however I believe my black bunny is a bit more dominant. It’s just the lighter one needs to accept it. I just chalked it up to hormones and possibly being stuck in my bedroom too long. I know! Some vets consider rabbits “exotic pets” so they charge more. She also said I could wait a year, so I don’t know.

  I definitely agree it would be the onset of hormones. I couple years ago I had foster rabbits. The 2 females were kept together and I saw this start around 5 months of age. They were fine though. I didn’t need to separate them.
  
  Would you have room for an x-pen? They’re less expensive and you might even find one in good condition 2nd hand. You can put things in there where one bun can escape the other if they need the space. For my desexed male/female pair, I have a box (bottom part of a cat tower) that she sits on. She’s big and takes up the whole top, so he can’t get up there and bother her.The majority of the day they spend snuggled together but there are times where he gets humpy.
  
  Same and opposite sex rabbit will mount for various reasons. Dominance, hormones, stress, excitement…
  Do make certain your rabbits sex has been confirmed though!

  They are definitely both girls, their nipples are coming in and the vet confirmed it for me. I’ve been looking into x-pens but I’m not too sure how many panels would suffice to make for an area for them, or to separate them. They definitely need to be spayed, or something. They also poop everywhere, and are digging everywhere,
