Hi,
So I wanted to go away a weekend in July, but my bunny sitter isn’t available that weekend, so I’m considering boarding my Jack at a local rabbit vet’s office.
I have the following options/concerns:
– Get a different bunny sitter who I don’t know and neither does my bunny. It would be a roll of the dice, but the pro is that he gets to stay at home.
– Board him at a local vet’s office that specializes in rabbits. I know he would be safe there, but driving really stresses him out, and he’s a rescue so I worry that he’ll think I’ve abandoned him.
– Find another weekend to go when my normal sitter is available. Jack absolutely loves his sitter (he actually climbs on her lap which he rarely does with me
) so I feel the most comfortable leaving him with her. The only issue with this is that I may not be able to go see this family member for a while as she’s going through cancer treatment and this weekend in July works best for her. Truth is, I haven’t left him for more than a day and I worry about him being alone (my fiance thinks I worry too much – he may be right). So going away at all is stressful for me.
Am I overreacting? Should I just reach out to another sitter?

Hmmm…I may not be the best person to answer this as I’m new to bunny owning, but I understand your problem
If I were you, I wouldn’t reschedule the trip. Family is more important than bunnies (hard to say that but oh well…And I hope she recovers from her cancer!).
Boarding could be an option, depending on how good the treatment will be. I’ve never boarded any pet before since I’ve always had a babysitter so I’m not sure how it works, but if they specialize in bunnies I’d say give it a shot maybe.
As for finding another sitter, that may be an okayish option, but if you do, it’ll be tricky. You’ll have to let the sitter know how to care for the bun and what to do in an emergency and all that stuff, plus your bun may not care for her/him.
To sum all this up, I’d say unless you can find another good sitter, I’d board the bunny. I hope this helped and I hope you enjoy your weekend with your relative!!
