I am very new to bunnies. I got a pair of female Holland Lops 2 weeks ago and we are really enjoying them. I just took them to the closest bunny-saavy vet in my area (and hour away) for a health check, as one has goopy eyes. (She gave 2 weeks of antibiotic eye drops in case it was pasturella.)
Anyway, I am not quite sure how old they are because 1.) One is much larger than the other 2.) The person we adopted from said they were 8.5 weeks but I later asked their birthdays and the dates she gave would have made them 15 weeks! The vet said just to split the difference and we can call them 12 weeks old.
They are not from the same litter but they have been getting along great, grooming each other, cuddling, sleeping together.
Today we had them out running in the x-pen in the lawn and the larger one (who is supposed to be younger if we believe the birthdates) started humping the other one. I called the vet and they checked the chart and confirmed they are both females. They said I still have to wait 2-3 more months to spay them. The one getting humped didn’t seem to mind, she kept eating grass. The other was very persistent and did it for 20 minutes until I just put them back in their hutch, where she stopped humping.
What does this mean? Will they do OK for 2 more months until I can get them spayed? I don’t have the ability to separate them, we spent a fortune on rabbit stuff and I cannot buy another huge hutch/supplies/x-pen.
