        Hello everyone!

I adopted Nova (and later Jesse) from the StL House Rabbit Society, and they made us come to an orientation before we were allowed to even look at the rabbits, which as a new rabbit owner was AMAZING . One thing I learned there was that rabbits have no paw pads and wire cages might hurt them if they are standing on them too long, they might get indentations in there feet etc. Well Nova has taken a liking to the Air Conditioning vent that is present in their cage. She likes to lay on it, and sit on it and flop on it lol . I was wondering if this would hurt her? Do I need to find a way to cover the grate so she doesn’t get hurt? She is even laying on it right now, as I type this. I put a tile in the pin, because it is getting hotter and I have a fan going in the room, (there is no air coming out of it, I don’t think), so I don’t think she is hot and I don’t want her to hurt her paws? What should I do?

How incredibly cute! We have another member whose bunny parks himself on the AC vent when it’s warm. And it’s very clever, bunnies don’t cope at all well with heat but they are very resistant to cold.

I don’t think her feet are in any danger. It’s not like she’s permanently walking on a wire mesh bottom. Wire bottom cages are bad for their feet, but this is not where she spends her whole life, plus she’s more lying on it than walking.

You can check her feet now and then, but I think it’s very low risk.

Mine lays on the vents too. She’s a Flemish so prone to sore hocks but she’s had no problem. My dog does it too haha

How very good of the Rabbit Society !! I think everyone should do that with all animals that are adopted !! Brilliant idea !

And how sweet a vent bunny – the difference is that Nova is choosing to go on the vent… she wouldn’t if it hurt her !! and as bam says there’s hardly any weight on the feet themselves as she is laying on it, not tap dancing on it ….

What a shame you haven’t logged back on since posting this – they look lovely (and Lucky!) buns !

                She’s so cute and tiny!!!

I’m sure she’ll be fine. As bam was saying, she’s not permanently forced to live on it and she can move at any time.

                  Hello, everyone!
I have been away for a while but I am back. Nova is still happily laying on the vent! Now I am concerned about some shedding that she is having, that maybe doesn’t seem normal. I have started a topic about that and am just waiting for it to be approved. I really did enjoy the rabbit society making us sit through the orientation. As a new bunny mom it was very informative.
