We feed our two Flemish rabbits with a high veggie diet. They are 8 months old and have big appetites. Vegetable main stays are carrot tops, fennel tops, dill which we get free from the farmer’s market. We buy stuff from grocery stores, particularly romaine lettuce. We might buy 12 heads of romaine at a time! Also cilantro, salad dandelion leaves, bok choi. Since they eat a lot of veggies, they don’t drink very much water. They chew a lot of oat hay. Oat hay lines their litter boxes and they’ll sit in their litter boxes chomping on hay. We have bowls of pellets available any time they want, but I try to buy pellets that don’t have molasses or sugars in them. Treats are favorites and they are good to force the rabbits to socialize with us…from time to time they’ll approach us for a treat. Fuji apples from farmer’s market…some reason they don’t like grocery store apples, bananas….they like them a little tart so the skins have to have green in them. Their food bill is quite a few dollars a week…probably $15 a week for hay.
