There are three big rules in my house. 1. Do NOT leave any unprotected cords anywhere on the floor. I have plenty of cord protectors if you NEED to use a cord (I live in an old house that doesn’t have many outlets). 2. Do NOT under any circumstances let either rabbit out when I am not home. 3. Do NOT attempt to walk my dogs.
Two of those rules were broken today while I was at work. I let a friend stay at my house while I was at work to do some of her work on my computer. I got a call at around 3pm from a freaked out friend telling me Moonshine had been electrocuted. I of course panic and rush home. When I get home there is an extension cord across my living room floor with several naked spots. I look for Moonshine and he is in a corner but when he hears me call his name he runs over. I asked her why she thought he had been shocked. She says that she wasn’t paying attention and the power in the living room went off and Moonshine jumped really high away from the cord before running off. When she tried to get to him he would run off (this isn’t really abnormal as he doesn’t really like her that much).
I scooped him up and checked him for burns and anything weird. I didn’t find anything and he was acting normal rushing around me as I walked. So I called in to work and told them I wouldn’t be back today. I threw the cord in the trash and kindly kicked my friend out. I called the vet to see if I could get him in and told them what happened. The vet told me to just keep an eye on him and to see if he is able to eat. He ate a grape and some parsley. He won’t eat pellets but that isn’t anything new since he will only eat his pellets in the morning and before I go to bed. At first he was acting a little odd and freaking out at everything. But that lasted about 10 minutes before he was back to normal.
He is eating, drinking water, pooping, doing zoomies, annoying Gypsy and chasing my cat like always.
I don’t know what possessed her to let him out in the first place. I even reminded her not to let either rabbit out or try to walk my dogs. I didn’t even know she had brought an extension cord!
Rabbits are going to be the death of me. As of right now he is perfectly normal but I am literally following him around making sure he is okay.
Him and Gypsy have a check-up appointment in a few days so I will probably insist on them checking him out more thoroughly.
