  As a dotting bunny mama I have bought many different toys for my bunnies (flip and toss carrots, wooden chews, willow balls, baby toys, tunnels, balls, stuffed animals etc.) and I get it. Bunnies do not like playing with the toys you buy for them so why not save yourself some money and listen to a little bit of wisdom i have learned from my bunnies. Here are some of the “toys” I have tried that have worked for me and my two buns.
  
  1) cardboard boxes
  
  hours of entertainment in just one box. Get a cardboard box and punch some holes in them. Make one bunny size and a few smaller sized. My bunnies go nuts exploring new boxes, hopping on top, tearing through them and the great part is that when they get bored you can flip the box to a new side and their interest is piqued again. Try a bunny cardboard mansion if you have the time, space and materials. Warning: make sure to not use tape or glue and try to use boxes made out of safe material.
  
  2) newspapers
  
  Use those old newspapers and put them to good use. just throw them in the cage and watch them rip and tear all their pent up bunny anger away. Warning: as with the cardboard boxs make sure the paper is bunny safe as well.
  
  3) treat balls
  
  seriously the best investment I have ever made. Just fill it up with some of their normal bunny food and watch them roll. It was really easy to teach my buns how to use the treat ball. I started off w the easiest setting and got them to notice the ball by pointing it out to them and having them associate the ball with food. After that every time I shake the ball the buns come running.
  
  4) towels
  
  I don’t know why this works but for some reason my buns love towels. they love digging in towels, they love to move towels around and they love to kiss towels (for some reason my buns love putting towels in their mouths and not eating them or just like licking them). sometimes Ill leave the towel out for them on the ground or hang it up on their cage to bat around with. Warning: make sure towels or blankets are bunny safe and they bunnies are not actually ingesting the towels because this could cause impaction.

  My bun lovessss boxes too! and just cardboard in general! Like old toilet paper rolls!
  I’m intrigued about the treat balls though. I have never seen them before? Are they designed for bunnies? Or are they similar to the Dog ‘Kong’ balls? I’d love to pick some up for my bun.

  They’re a hard plastic with an adjustable sized opening. Like this here: http://bunnyapproved.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/Ball2.jpg To the best of my knowledge they’re designed for bunnies, they do come with carrot and apple designs after all. They’re a fantastic toy, I’ve had mine for years and love it.

  OMG Charlie LOVES his stuffie ( a dollar store stuffed lamb ) he LICKS it like its his best friend LOL and he also completely DESTROYS tp rolls. One toy that he loves is fairly easy to make: a tp roll ball. I just cut little rings off of the tube, and then I tuck them inside eachother to form a ball shape. I put a treat inside and add more rings. He plays with this toy for hours, trying to get the treat out. All i have to do to get him interested is shake the ball with the treat inside.

  Yeah, my bunny loves a dishtowel right now. I’ll try a stuffed animal. Thought is was dangerous, but I guess not!

  You can get treat/food balls at almost any pet store. They are usually made for cats and dogs but will still be bunny sized. I work at a pet store and the cat ones are around $10 and they are so cute! Definitely going to pick one up today.

  Loving these ideas! My bunnies LOVE toilet paper rolls. They tend not to destroy them either – they just throw them, chase them, and hit each other with them. I’m trying to find more toys that interest them, but they usually go back to the toilet rolls.

  For the treat balls you can just cut up an old toilet paper roll. You just cut it up into about 3 or 4 small rings and overlap them into a ball. Make sure you make it so the holes are big enough to fit your treats out, but of course don’t make it too easy. My little Zeus loves throwing around his treat ball.

  I use a simple plastic treat ball with an adjustable opening. I bought mine at the pet store for about $7. its best to start off with simple treat balls because sometimes when i make the hole too small or put too much food inside so the ball doesnt roll and the food doesn’t come out my bunnies give up. I am glad that a lot of you are enjoying my ideas let me know how they work for you

  I think Buddha has a fear of cardboard. Prior to me adopting him, he was transported in boxes alllll the time from what I hear. He won’t touch a box or TP roll… it’s nuts!

  thanks for this thread! My daisy is SO much more active than MrBun. things that were find with him she has now torn up. she ripped her’s and MrBun’s beds (dog beds) to shreds- starting trying to rip up the hidey house. and is now trying to pull up the floor in their condo. shes destructo bun!!! I think we just need to let her get more of her energy out and challenge her more. that plus changing the flooring to something she cant pull up and choosing things she cant tear apart. they get 2 periods of free roaming a day – one in the morning and one right before bed and it never fails an hour or two after bed time she is going nuts!
