My dearingest, darlingest rabbit,
You make my heart pitter-patter.
But would rather I avoid one silly habit,
Which is a very important matter.

When I lift, you squirm.
When I hug, you glare.
You are a particularly fluffy worm…
One I try to handle with care.

A creature of prey, always on guard,
You like four feet on the ground.
Trying to remember can be awfully hard,
But it’s worth being safe and sound.

Picking you up is for my pleasure,
Something we do not mutually share.
I’d love to hold you forever and ever,
But will promise not to, I swear.

Worth more are your kisses,
Your nuzzles and hops,
Your binkies and ear shakes,
And those big belly flops.

To be your person is a joy,
Your bunny trust is a gift,

I shall offer you all of my love,

Without a single lift.
