  Hey guys,
  
  I hope you can help a bunny mom out. I’ve had my first pet bun for three months, a darling blue female mini-rex named Luna. She is so wonderful, but it’s been a rough ride. We got her and a litter mate in January. Her mate died suddenly after a tiny scratch on her foot even though she had vet care and antibiotics in February. She was spayed in March then began exhibiting eye issues. The vet thought it was probably a minor scratch or infection. We did antibiotic and nsaid drops. It improved but returned when we stopped. At an opthamologist we found a tiny iris abcess and began testing for e cuniculi. The titers came back high.
  
  Our vet has put us on panacur for 28 days. Luna had her first dose an hour or so ago mixed in a nibble of applesauce, which she scarffed. Now she is just lounging, rather than being her normal hyper self. Did anyone notice nausea or change in stools? I swear i hear a tummy rumble.
  
  I know Panacur is relatively safe and to monitor liver enzymes. I am struggling to find personal experiences with the daily treatment. Can anyone weigh in? I am a nervous new mom, obviously!

  Some rabbits may be more sensitive then others. Panacur will kill of other intestinal worms and treat the EC parasite. So the body has some extra toxins to get rid of at this time.
  Is she interested in food? A tummy upset might be the thing to watch for most. I’d ring and let your vet know any adverse reactions you’re seeing and seek their guidance on this. It may be a matter of the 1st few doses upsetting her but then it getting better. Or the vet may want to try her on a different medication instead…
  Are you continuing with the NSAID eye drops? If there is pain, this may cause a change in behaviour also.

  Cincinnati and Daisy had this for hookworms, but only needed it every 14 days. I can’t imagine trying to give it every day – I had the vet techs administer it. Cincinnati, who is otherwise so good, tries to escape. Good luck with this! Applesauce is a clever idea.

  My Bindi did the 28 day treatment too and was completely fine. He started up with sudden head tilt and nystagmus. My vet suspected EC so we did the Fenbendazole and he was back to normal in a week.

  Thanks for replying! She is eating. She just seems sort of uncomfortable for an hour or two after her dose. I tried to give it this morning after I knew she has filled up on some pellets to see if a fuller belly might reduce some effects. She still munches lots of hay after the dose and hangs in her litter box more than usual. So I am sure she feels some sort of queasy belly. We dosed this morning after her am pellets and by afternoon free time she seems fine. She is still on nsaid, corticosteroid and antibiotic eye drops… And her eye looks very much clear. Her current abscess is very small, barely visible to the naked eye. We caught it so early, we are hoping to save her eye with serious effort.

  I am so glad your Bindi did well! Oddly enough, Luna was called Bindy by her breeder. My husband wasn’t a fan of the name! Lol. Did your vet have you do blood work during the 28 day cycle to monitor for liver enzymes or anemia? Most others have said no, but my vet is insisting on a blood check mid cycle. This is the worst for Luna, she hates blood draws and at this point the vet in general due to her frequent eye doctor appointments.

  Thanks for your time and reply! I appreciate your time. I highly recommend the applesauce trick. Just the tiniest amount is all it took! I know other medicines are often flavored for bunnies and that there is an apple version of panacur for horses. This is not. I tasted it, it is awful! (I know, that was probably super dumb of me!). But yeah, try the applesauce for hiding nasty meds! I am glad your buns are doing well!

  So the NSAID and steroid are in eye drops? I know there’s something about the two not been given together but I think this may be for oral and injectable forms. Not sure about topical.
  
  How does your vet normally do blood draws?
  Taking from the rear leg vein seems to be less complicated. When my rabbit had this done, I held him still on the table and they just dropped his leg off the side so it hung down slightly. Needle in and let blood come via gravity. It seemed a really easy process and he wasn’t bothered by it.

  The steroid and nsaid are separate drops. We are weaning off the steroid drops and leaning back toward nsaid and antibiotics drops now that the severe uveitis inflammation has reduced.
  
  They have been doing blood draw from her back leg. She just isn’t into being held to start with. She also hates car travel, so that compounds the situation. We have a cozy carrier. We cover it during the ride to reduce car sickness. She just hates it.
