Hi, everyone!
This is my first time posting here, but I’ve read through a lot of your forums before and you guys are really helpful.
Okay, to start, my baby Finn has always had pretty much perfect litter habits other than right before I got him fixed (unless he’s in bed with me). He’s been fixed for about three years now. In the last three months or so, I started finding pee underneath his litter box when I went to clean it and this became a regular thing. Strange, but not a HUGE deal. Then in the last six weeks, however, he started just blatantly peeing all over in his cage. I always happen to hear him pee, so that often means me getting out of bed to clean it up. I can’t just let him sit there! Meanwhile, he has been acting normal, eating ferociously, and pooping well. But it started to get to the point where I was getting concerned, so I took him to the vet about three weeks ago. They did everything: physical exam, urinalysis, blood work, and radiographs. Couldn’t find anything. They said it’s most likely behavioral but they had me tweak his diet a little bit.
After the vet, nothing really improved until I introduced a second litterbox into his cage. Everything after that was perfect for about a week. Then it started again. And NOW he’s peeing on the carpet, which he has NEVER done in his life. Still acting like my normal Finn. He now has one GIGANTIC litterbox with sides probably six inches high in his cage. I’ve been trying to retrain this entire time by putting soiled paper towels in his litterbox. But the thing is, he’s using it, just not al of the time. I think he might be mad about something, but nothing has really changed for him in this time.
Sorry, this is long, but it’s been a long several weeks. Do you guys have any suggestions for retraining? At this point, I feel like I don’t know what to do besides clean up pee for the rest of our time together.
Thanks!
