Her name is Nefertiti.
So we had a vet appointment today, and it turns out the little gal is pregnant. Nobody had any idea, and she is due next week. So yay. We’re reorganizing the room, and segregating her entirely from the other two, to give her some peace. Building a nesting box, and all that, and the animal sanctuary who helped us get her, is going to help us re-home the kits when they are ready. Fingers crossed it won’t take too long!
We have no idea what this entails. The girl that found her said for two weeks she was completely isolated, and the photo studio who tossed her gave us the prior owners information. She owned her for three years and said how she never had contact with any rabbits… Buuuuuut the round belly and mammaries filling don’t attest to that story. XD
So we are having a new, unintentional adventure here in our home! The vet said if she doesn’t give birth by the end of next week, then it may be something other than a pregnancy, such as stomach tumors, that can mask and appear to be a pregnancy. So for once, actually fingers crossed for babies, rather than something really bad.
She’s a black version of Podge !! Oh yes a whoops litter is the better of the 2 choices.
If she is preggers then of course you should rename her Mary !!!
Nah we are keeping Nefertiti, it just fits. She’s a little goddess now in our home. We are prepping our bedroom to be her spot for the litter, since it’s the most secluded area from my other two, since we want her to be as stress free as possible.
She’s a lionhead, mini rex mix. >.< Just…. THAT FLOOFS! If the male was black, which I'm hoping he was, she is going to have some ADORABLE babies. I hope they get the mane!
I just have to say that I laughed out loud and scared some people around me when you suggested Mary as a name, Vienna Blue. So funny!
I’m hoping for babies too hiskatey! Best of luck!
She’s gorgeous! I too hope she’ll have babies so it’s not about the other possibility. Nefertiti is a beautiful name for a beautiful princess. So glad you’ll get help with finding home for the kits.
Vienna LOL!
Bam we shouldn’t have a problem. Two people, both friends of ours are showing an interest in the babies. One would drive from Washington for a baby!
She is just precious and beautiful. I’m thinking pregnancy, not just for hopes. Her dewlap is gigantic beneath all that fluff, and she has gotten wider since yesterday. Her tummy is big at the sides and nice and rounded, and she looks like a pregnant dog waddling when you look at her from above.
Due to the stress of moving she hasn’t eaten much, but is very active and drinking, but the vet wants to get nutrients into her ASAP, so we are doing critical care, just to get some weight on her, and nutrients in her for the babies. So fingers crossed. Vet is thinking a week or two and they’ll be born, but if they aren’t born by next Tuesday we are going in for an xray.
What a gorgeous little fluff!!!! Congrats on the new addition (well, additions!
)
Love the name Nefertiti. Big Ancient Egypt fan here. Have a bridge kitty called Nefera.
Wow, you’re going to have your hands full!
I hope they all arrive safely and thrive. And that the Mama does well also!
Maple had babies within a week of my bringing her home. I’ll be honest, it was not nice seeing her birth them. She struggled.
I wonder if the photo studio put her with a male rabbit?
Anyway, Welcome Neferetti !
Yowzers! LOL That is a surprise, indeed. She’s beautiful – the kits have some great genes to work with. ![]()
What a surprise! Both a bad and good one in many ways. I hope we get to see pics of the babies, though I’m not sure if that’s allowed on here. Though she’s a rescue.
Wishing her the best and hope it all goes well.
I thought the same thing as Jerseygirl – that they put her with a boy for the photoshoot, and no one was watching, and viola… life finds a way.
So an update on Neffie. She’s gained weight, and her tummy has gotten rounder. And her little nips have grown larger, indicating her mammary glands are starting to produce milk. She has not yet started to nest, but we have given her some supplies for it.
Another update. Neffie is eating fresh greens now on her own. We are still doing critical care, but she’s eating which is good. Means she is finally feeling more settled. She doesn’t seem interested in the pellets, but then again she was being fed horrid, no name brand quality pellets, and we’re feeding her oxbow. >.< It's a new, big change. She also is nibbling on her hay, and exploring in the area we set up in the room for her a bit more which is exciting!
She’s even accepting pets, and forms of affection now. Her tummy has gotten even wider, and nips growing more. She’s is becoming territorial now of the nesting box, which we filled with fluff, and blankets and hay for her to use as materials. She’s started to nest for a few minutes, but the veggies distracted her.
It sounds like she’s doing great! There will be babies very soon if she’s started to nest. Sending her so many good birthing-vibes (((((Nefertiti)))))
Still no babies, but holy gods her tummy has gotten VERY fat now. And she’s getting very protective of her nesting box. VERY protective which is a good sign. She re-arranged the nesting box today, and shoved everything to the other side of the cage.
I am on their facebook page more than anything, and it is a bit quicker to update, if you guys want it. I’ve started to do daily diary entries for Neffie, since it was kind of entertaining.

I liked your page, you’ll see me as Bunny Basics
Very excited for a happy and safe birth of the kits.
