        Hello,
So I have come to the conclusion that because I have just gotten a new job, my precious bunny does not get enough attention. I put up an ad for him on Craigslist, and a woman who has been breeding for years now wants to adopt him… She seems nice, and says she keeps them indoors, but my mom says for a stud I should ask a higher price, since he is a sable Lionhead and she’ll be getting more little bunnies out of him…

Is letting him go to a breeder a good idea?
And what is an appropriate price for a stud?

        Thank you!

Hi Maria and Bumbles! First of all, welcome to BB! We are a forum that is dedicated to house bunnies. Therefore, we do not allow topics on intentional breeding. I realize that you do not intend to breed you bunny, but you are asking if you should rehome him so he can be a stud for a breeder. We just aren’t a forum that is equipped to answer such a question.

I wanted to post though because we still may be able to help you. If it were me, then I would be more concerned with finding my bunny a loving home. I wouldn’t be worried about the “worth” of my bunny. I understand that breeders can be very good people and that their bunnies can be very well cared for. No one is suggesting that this person wouldn’t take care of you bunny. However, if he were to be placed in such a home, I doubt he would be getting a lot of love or individual attention (if she is a breeder, she probably has LOTS of bunnies). My point is, by rehoming him with a breeder, he may not be any better off attention-wise (you said you wanted to rehome him because you didn’t have as much time for him). If that is the case, then why not keep him in a familiar home? You never know, things might change in the future and you will have more time to spend with him.

So my advice is to wait on this a little more. Really think things over as you take the time to adjust to your new job. If you then feel it is still best to find him a new home, then look for someone who is interested in having a house bunny to spoil. The House Rabbit Society has a great article on the topic.

If you decide to keep your bunny, I do hope you decide to stick around. We would be happy to help you with any questions you might have about keeping your house bunny happy.
