He has had it for 2-3 weeks now. At first it was just the red one and it was a little bloodier. I put hydrogen peroxide and neosporin on it thinking he just had an itch and itched it too hard. One week later there is a strange brown spot next to it and hair loss in the surrounding areas as shown in the photo. He is a floppy eared bunny 5 y/o. He is eating and pooping just fine and is still playful. I haven’t noticed any changes in his mood and it didn’t seem to harm him when I put the hydrogen peroxide on it which is alarming because the healing effect should cause a sharp pain right? Should I take him to the vet? Oh he is also the only rabbit in his cage and no other animals access him when he is running around.

Did you have a photo you wanted to upload ashbunmama?

If it’s been around for 2-3 weeks now, then yes, I’d go get it checked out. The brown you’re describing and hair loss could be fur mite or bacterial or fungal skin infection. That doesn’t necessarily have to have come from anywhere. Sometimes if a rabbit is run down from something else, or getting elderly, infections or infestations crop up.
