I share my life, heart and home with a wonderful male Holland Lop rabbit.  He is 5 years old.

We were thinking of bringing home a pair of new guinea pigs.  I know that housing them together is a big no no.  However, my question is, is it appropriate to put their hutch in the same room as Samson?  Samson sleeps in a hutch in this room at night and when we leave home, but otherwise has the run of this whole room.  So he would be able to go up to their cage during his free roam time, but they would never be in the same enclosure together.  Is this risky?  My exotic vet said it was okay as long as Samson is an adult.  I still want to be overly cautious here though.

We have always kept buns and pigs in the same room, with the pigs in big cages, they do interact, and no bun has ever harmed a pig or vice versa.

They also go out in the garden in a runs along side each other, and go up to each other and have some form of bunny/piggy conversation.

As long as they are not in the same cage together, or loose together, it should be fine

The only reason its a big no no to housing them together is that the rabbits might bully the guinea pigs into not eating

When my boyfriends mom had to babysit our youngest, Badger, for a few weeks he shared a roaming room with their guinea pig. It actually made their piggy really happy. They had hay tug of war fights over the long crunchy pieces, ran around the room together, explored together, and once in a while cuddled together. So, i dont see why some buns and pigs cant share a living space. It might turn out to be fun for them to interact together, even if its just through bars

Awesome…thank you! My Samson is pretty gentle, at least with us. Perhaps after a while, I could try very supervised interactions
